This research is to analyze the needs for community empowerment through sustainable participantion method. The findings serve as contribution to the designing of community empowerment strategies and the promoting of legal awareness. This research focuses on tapis, a typically Lampung traditional product, which is classified as folklore. This folklore essentially meets the requirements to be copyrighted. Yet, it is not petented due to the fact that it is a communal property which has been passed on for generations and the inventor is therefore not identified. The findings of this research suggest that tapis makers in Lampung need such support as trainings, government´s endorsement and incentives , capital provision shcemes, as well as marketing and legal assistance. The findings also recommend that partnership between the tapis makers and the government be intensified to promote the product, not only locally, and nationally, but also internationally. This should involve the Lampung Crafts Council, the government, and related consultant to jointly protect this product and to help promote it in bigger scope. Keywords : Folklore, government, participation |
