ABSTRAK Penelitian ini membahas presentasi diri dalam online dating kencan daring di Setipe.com. Presentasi diri adalah salah satu elemen penting dalam kencan daring. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui bagaimana presentasi diri dalam kencan daring. Untuk melihat hal tersebut, peneliti menggunakan teori dramaturgi Goffman. Selama ini presentasi diri Goffman lebih dekat dengan konteks luring, penelitian ini berusaha mendudukkannya dalam konteks daring. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode netnografi untuk mengetahui cara informan menampilkan dirinya dalam percakapan dengan calon pasangan di kencan daring. Penelitian ini akan meneliti dua pengguna kencan daring N=2 dari Setipe.com. Data yang digali adalah profil diri dan interaksi informan dengan calon-calon pasangannya melalui fitur chat di Setipe.com. Hasil penelitian ini menemukan bahwa informan melakukan presentasi diri dalam kencan daring melalui penulisan profil diri dan pesan percakapan dengan match. Sistem kencan daring juga membuat presentasi diri terjadi secara bertahap dan memudahkan informan dalam melakukan presentasi diri. Informan melakukan presentasi diri sejak mendaftar di kencan daring sampai bertukar kontak. Cara-cara yang informan tempuh untuk mempresentasikan dirinya, antara lain: menyeleksi informasi dalam mengisi profil diri, menggunakan informasi dari match untuk mendefinisikan situasi, menonjolkan topik penting untuk mengelola impression management, dan meminta kontak pribadi match agar bisa berpindah ke medium komunikasi yang lebih privat. ABSTRACT This research discusses the self presentation in online dating in Setipe.com. This research aims to find out how an individual present him herself in online dating. As one of the important element on online dating, the researcher uses Goffman rsquo s dramaturgy theory to observe the self presentation. Although Goffman rsquo s theory places dramaturgy in offline context, this research is trying to put dramaturgy in online context. The method used in this research is netnography. This research will observe two online dating user N 2 from setipe.com. The data are the informant rsquo s profile and interaction with the match through the chat in setipe.com. The result shows that the informant was presenting himself in online dating. The informant presented himself by shaping his profile and conversing with his match. The online dating system also makes it easy for the informant to present himself gradually. The informant was also presenting himself by exchanging contact with his match. The informant was doing the presentation of self by selecting the profile information, using the match rsquo s information to define the situation, emphasizing a certain topic as an impression management, and asking for the match rsquo s number so that they can switch into a more private communcation medium. |
