ABSTRAK Due to globalization, the conduct of Multicultural teams MCteams within firms and organizations has been growing. Members from different cultural background are assembled to work together in order to reach certain performance levels. Accordingly, the execution of effective communication is vital. Practitioners seek to put cultural diversity in their teams to get diverse perspectives. However, the fact that cultural difference influences members rsquo communication style has often been left behind in the practice. This study aims to analyze one of the communication style aspects affected, which is the level of directness among different cultures. This research had 124 participants consisting of 49 Dutch low context and 75 Indonesians high context international students and young professionals. The result shows that the direct relationship was not significant, indicating that the level of directness does not directly influence the communication effectiveness in MCteams. Therefore, performance is not impacted. However, there were significant lone relationships within three indicators of effective communication found, which could prove to be useful for managers. This study has contributed to the gap of literature by providing empirical evidence that different level of directness does not impact the MCteams rsquo performance directly and three significant relationships that can be the groundwork for future research. ABSTRAK Oleh adanya globalisasi, pelaksanaan tim multikultural MC teams di dalam perusahaan dan organisasi terus berkembang. Para anggota yang berasal dari berbagai macam latar belakang budaya dipersatukan untuk bekerja bersama agar mencapai tingkat performa tertentu. Oleh sebab itu, pelaksanaan komunikasi yang efektif sangatlah penting. Para praktisi di bidang tersebut berusaha untuk mengikutsertakan berbagai macam budaya di dalam tim agar mendapatkan perspektif yang beragam. Namun, pada kenyataannya, adanya isu perbedaan cara berkomunikasi sering dilupakan dalam prakteknya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisa aspek-aspek berkomunikasi yaitu dalam hal tingkat keterusterangan directness antar kultur yang beragam. Di dalam penelitian ini, terdapat 124 peserta yang terdiri dari mahasiswa dan profesional muda . Mereka terbagi menjadi 49 warga negara Belanda low-context culture dan 75 warga negara Indonesia high-context culture . Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pengaruh langsung tidaklah signifikan. Ini berarti tingkat keterusterangan directness tidak secara langsung mempengaruhi efektifitas komunikasi dari tim multikultural., sehingga performa tidak terpengaruh. Namun, telah ditemukan pengaruh hubungan yang signifikan dari tiga indikator yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yang akan berguna untuk manager dalam prakteknya. Penelitian ini telah berkontribusi dalam menyediakan bukti empiris bahwa tingkat keterusterangan directness tidak berpengaruh langsung terhadap performa tim multikultural dan juga ditemukannya tiga indicator signifikan yang dapat menjadi basis dan analisa untuk peneltian lebih lanjut. |
