ABSTRAK Tesis ini bertujuan untuk membahas bentuk-bentuk rasisme intra-ras yang terjadi di dalam novel Home to Harlem 1928 karya Claude McKay dan sekaligus mengetahui posisi Claude McKay sebagai penulis implied author terhadap persoalan rasisme intra-ras di awal abad ke-20. Novel ini dianalisis dengan menggunakan pendekatan tekstual dengan memakai konsep ras, kelas dan gender, dan konsep rasisme intra-ras. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa rasisme intra-ras yang ditemukan di dalam novel ini terbagi di dalam 2 bentuk, yaitu: colorism dan borderism. Teks menunjukkan adanya relasi yang linear antara tingkat kecerahan warna kulit dengan hierarki kelas sosial tokoh-tokoh di dalam novel. Selain itu, teks juga menunjukkan adanya perasaan berbeda perceptions of difference yang mengakibatkan terjadinya borderism di antara kedua tokoh utama, Jake dan Ray, dalam hal penggunaan bahasa, pengetahuan, gaya hidup, dan tujuan hidup. Dari analisis kedua bentuk rasisme intra-ras tersebut diketahui bahwa McKay sebagai penulis novel implied author menunjukkan keberpihakannya pada peradaban kulit putih. ABSTRACT This thesis aims to discuss the forms of intraracial racism found in the Claude McKay rsquo s novel Home to Harlem 1928 , as well as to know McKay 39 s position as an implied author on the issue of intraracial racism in the early 20th century. The novel is analysed using a textual approach and the concepts of race, class gender, and intraracial racism. The result shows that there are two forms of intraracial racism found in the novel, colorism and borderism. The text shows that there is a linear relation between the brightness of skin color and the social class hierarchy of characters in the novel. In addition, the text also shows the perceptions of difference causing the borderism between the two main characters, Jake and Ray, in terms of language use, knowledge, lifestyle, and life purpose. From the analysis of these two forms of intraracial racism, it is known that McKay as an implied author shows his inclination towards white civilization. |
