Abstract
ABSTRAK
Keunggulan pariwisata yang tersebar di seluruh provinsi di Indonesia mendorong pemerintah menjadikan pariwisata sebagai sektor unggulan untuk meningkatkan perekonomian bangsa. Meski begitu strategi yang disusun oleh pemerintah dalam memaksimalkan pertumbuhan sektor pariwisata rentan menyebabkan ketimpangan pendapatan. Berkaca dari negara lain, pertumbuhan sektor pariwisata dapat memperlebar jurang ketimpangan pendapatan di masyarakat. Oleh karena itu kontribusi sektor pariwisata untuk mengatasi masalah pembangunan ekonomi, khususnya ketimpangan pendapatan, patut untuk dipertanyakan. Penelitian ini membahas mengenai dampak pertumbuhan sektor pariwisata dalam mengatasi ketimpangan pendapatan di Indonesia. Analisis menggunakan data panel periode tahun 2010 hingga 2016 di 33 provinsi Indonesia. Hasil penelitian menyimpulkan bahwa dampak sektor pariwisa terhadap distribusi pendapatan akan bergantung pada upaya yang dilakukan dalam memajukan sektor tersebut.
ABSTRACT
The natural wonders and cultural riches of Indonesia never fail to amaze tourist from all over the world. Those tourism advantages which spread throughout all provinces in Indonesia has encouraged the government to initiate tourism as a leading sector to improve the economic condition. Nevertheless, strategies taken by the government for maximizing tourism sector need extra attention because its possibility to lead to the inequality income. Reflecting from other countries, the development of tourism sector may add the gap of income inequality in society. Therefore the contribution of tourism sector to overcome the problems of economic development, especially income inequality, should be questioned. This study discussed the impact of tourism growth in overcoming income inequality in Indonesia. The analysis utilized a panel data set from 2010 to 2016 of the 33 provinces of Indonesia. The empirical findings confirmed that the impact of the tourism sector on the distribution of income will depend on the efforts made in expanding the sector.
