ABSTRACT This paper discusses about reggae music as an emerging resistance music in west sumatera like Ranah Raster. Characteristic of music and work of this group is to hybridize with elements of local music, that is existence of elements of malay tradition. With this mixing on the type of reggae music Ranch raster, so consciously or unconsciously a nationalism awakens to them. That has become a reason in the oration of their work Ranah Raster also conveyed their ideology of peace and invited reggae lovers to reject mental repression that led to the stupidity ofsociety. The approach taken is musicology and hybrid. |
