ABSTRACT Abstract This study aimed to understand whether intimacy and commitment predict forgiveness. Further, we also examined whether the relationships could be explained by trust. The survey collected 203 wives with random purposive sampling. Participants were asked to fill in a set of questionnaires: The marital offence specific forgiveness (MOFS) scale, Personal assessment intimacy in relationship (PAIR) scale, commitment scale, and trust scale. It was hypothesized that intimacy (H1), commitment (H2), and trust (H3), would positively associate with forgiveness. Moreover, it was expected that the effect of intimacy and commitment on forgiveness would be mediated by trust (H4 & H5). The results showed that some of our hypotheses were supported, unless for H4. H1 was accepted while H2 was rejected. The present study indicates that intimacy and commitment relate to trust. The trust can mediate the association between intimacy and forgiveness, but trust cannot mediate the relationship between commitment and forgiveness. |
