Abstract
ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperoleh bukti empiris terkait pengaruh kompetensi CEO terhadap manajemen laba serta peran pengawasan oleh bank dan reputasi CEO dalam memoderasi pengaruh kompetensi CEO terhadap manajemen laba. Penelitian ini menggunakan tiga tipe manajemen laba, yaitu manajemen laba agregat, akrual, dan riil. Sampel yang digunakan adalah perusahaan non keuangan yang terdaftar pada Bursa Efek Indonesia tahun 2015-2017. Hasil pengujian pada kompetensi CEO menunjukkan bahwa pengaruh kompetensi CEO dalam menekan manajemen laba hanya terjadi pada manajemen laba agregat dan akrual, sedangkan kompetensi CEO dalam menekan manajemen laba riil tidak berpengaruh. Selain itu, hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa peran pengawasan oleh bank dan reputasi CEO secara konsisten memperkuat pengaruh kompetensi CEO dalam menekan manajemen laba agregat, tetapi peran pengawasan oleh bank dan reputasi CEO cenderung memiliki peran subtitusi yaitu memperlemah pengaruh kompetensi CEO terhadap manajemen laba akrual. Sementara itu, peran pengawasan oleh bank dan reputasi CEO tidak menunjukkan pengaruh terhadap aktivitas manajemen laba riil.
ABSTRACT This study aims to obtain empirical evidence related to the effect of CEO competencies on earnings management, and the bank monitoring and the CEO reputation in moderating the effect of CEO competencies on earnings management. This study uses three types of earnings management, namely aggregate, accruals, and real earnings management. The sample used is a non-financial company listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in 2015-2017. The test results on CEO competencies indicate that the effect of CEO competencies in suppressing earnings management only occurs in aggregate and accruals earnings management, while CEO competencies have no effect in suppressing real earnings management. In addition, the results of the study showed that the bank monitoring and CEO reputation consistently strengthened the effect of CEO competencies in suppressing aggregate earnings management, however the the bank monitoring and the CEO reputation tended to have a substitution role, which weakened the effect of CEO competence on accrual earnings management. Meanwhile, the bank monitoring and the CEO reputation do not show any effect on real earnings management activities.
