 Abstract
This study discusses the implementation of the rice agriculture intensification program by the Indonesian government in Purbalingga Regency in 1969-1998. The intensification program of rice farming itself was implemented by the Indonesian government at that time (the New Order) to achieve national self-sufficiency in rice and regulate rice prices to remain affordable while increasing the welfare of rice farmers in Purbalingga District. However, this program received a positive response from farmers in Purbalingga District after several years of implementation due to the quality of the technology used and technical problems in the field. Through historical methods and sources such as literature, archives, government publications, and interviews with actual sources, it turned out that the implementation of the program made the opportunities in the agricultural sector unbalanced despite the success in increasing the amount of local rice. production.
