Model Attentional-Overload menjelaskan bagaimana kehadiran audiens menjadi faktor fasilitatif yang dapat meningkatkan performa pada tugas sederhana. Di sisi lain, teori Process-Efficiency menganggap kehadiran audiens sebagai faktor yang menghambat performa. Namun, masih sedikit studi yang meneliti hubungan antara kehadiran audiens kecemasan sesaat, serta efek keduanya pada performa kognitif.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memahami apakah kehadiran audiens dan kecemasan sesaat dapat mempengaruhi performa kognitif pada tugas aritmatika sederhana. Partisipan riset adalah mahasiswa dari University of Queensland (N = 40, laki-laki = 14) yang direkrut menggunakan metode convenience sampling. Partisipan dikelompokkan ke dalam empat kondisi eksperimental (n =10) lalu ditugaskan untuk menjawab serangkaian pertanyaan aritmatika sederhana selama satu menit.Hasil analisis independent t-test menunjukkan bahwa tidak terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan pada performa kognitif peserta dalam kondisi audiens dan kondisi non-audiens. Selain itu, hasil menunjukkan bahwa tidak terdapat perbedaan performa kognitif peserta di kondisi anxiety-audience dan no anxiety-audience. Studi ini menunjukkan pentingnya bagi studi lain untuk meneliti lebih dalam faktor perbedaan individu yang dapat mempengaruhi performa kognitif. The Attentional-Overload Model has outlined the presence of an audience as a facilitative factor of performance on simple tasks. On the other hand, the Processing Efficiency Theory views the presence of an audience as an inhibiting factor of performance. Yet, a limited amount of studies has discussed the relations between the presence of an audience and state anxiety, and their combined effects on cognitive task performance.This study aims to investigate whether the presence of an audience, as well as state anxiety, influences cognitive performance on a simple arithmetic task. Students from the University of Queensland (N=40, males = 14) were recruited through convenience sampling and tasked to answer a set of simple arithmetic questions under one minute in one out of the four experimental conditions (n=10).An independent sample t-test indicated that there were no significant differences in performance between participants in audience condition and in no audience condition, as well as between participants in anxiety-audience and in no anxiety-audience condition. The study highlights the necessity for future studies to explore factors of individual differences that may influence cognitive performance. |
