In the higher education context, the scenario of using massive open online course (MOOC) candiffer from one institution to another. Each scenario has different system requirements for theMOOC platform. The system requirement analysis itself is a complex process that require a lotof time and resources. Difficulties in MOOC platform requirement analysis can be resolved ifthe process is done with automation. A framework that describe MOOC platform components isneeded as a theoretical foundation for building the automation system. On the other hand, theframework designed explicitly for MOOC platform development does not exist yet, or if not, isstill limited. The problem addressed in this research is how to develop a framework to identifysystem requirements for various MOOC platform usage scenarios in higher education. Threeresearch questions answered by this study. First, what are the components of the MOOCframework? Second, how do these components relate to each other and form a MOOCframework? Third, to what extent can the framework help develop the MOOC platform forvarious usage scenarios in higher education?Textual analysis with data text mining is carried out on 150 MOOC articles from various reputablejournals to identify the framework components. In addition, this study qualitatively analyzed theresults of a survey of practitioners and observations of local MOOC providers in Indonesia usingthe grounded theory methodology. The relationships between components are then identifiedusing principal component analysis (PCA). Eight experts are involved in validating theframework. An instrument or toolkit to identify the MOOC platform requirements adaptivelyaccording to higher education institutions' conditions is then designed from the proposedframework. At the end of the study, a MOOC platform prototype is developed based on thesystem requirements generated by the toolkit. The white-box testing method is performed tovalidate its functionality. The usability of the platform is also measured by the system usabilityscale (SUS).The results of this research are the MOOC framework, toolkit, and platform prototype. ElevenMOOC components obtained, namely: course, institution, learner, instructor, interaction, learningevaluation, application software, supporting technology, quality assurance, business, andmanagement. A toolkit prototype is developed as the framework implementation. Lastly, a fullyfunctional MOOC platform prototype with a SUS score of 76.07 is also developed. |
