Abstrak
Penelitian ini menggunakan film Mulan (1998) versi animasi dan Mulan (2020) versi live action sebagai korpus penelitian. Korpus tersebut memuat permasalahan gender androgini dengan narasi yang berbeda. Berbeda dari penelitian-penelitian terdahulu yang telah mengangkat permasalahan gender, penelitian ini berfokus pada isu androginitas (femininitas dan maskulinitas yang tinggi dalam satu individu) yang direpresentasikan melalui tokoh Mulan. Dengan menggunakan konsep Androgini Bem S.L (1974)., penelitian ini mencoba membongkar transformasi androginitas pada tokoh Mulan dalam kedua film tersebut dan refleksinya. Hasil analisis menemukan androginitas Mulan terbentuk karena adanya dukungan dari lingkungan sekitar, peran orang tua, dan keyakinan diri sendiri dalam menentukan identitas yang diinginkan. Transformasi tersebut dapat dimaknai dengan adanya upaya Disney (sebagai rumah produksi film bertema princess/putri) untuk melakukan koreksi terhadap cara pandangnya terhadap permasalahan gender.
......This study uses the animated version of the Mulan (1998) film and the live action version of Mulan (2020) as the research corpus. The corpus contains androgynous gender issues formulated in different narratives. Different from previous studies that have raised gender issues, this research focuses on the issue of androgyny (high femininity and masculinity in one individual) which is represented through the character Mulan. By using the concept of Androgynous Bem S.L. (1974), this research tries to uncover the androgynous transformation of Mulan's character in the two films and her reflection. The analysis found that Mulan's androgyny was formed because of the support from the surrounding environment, the role of parents, and her self-confidence in determining the desired identity. This transformation can be interpreted by Disney's efforts (as a princess/princess-themed film production house) to make corrections to its perspective on gender issues.
