Penelitian ini berfokus untuk melihat gaya komunikasi berdasarkan teori genderlect styles communication pada pria gay dalam menjalin committed romantic relationship. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengindentifikasi dan mendeskripsikan pasangan gay dalam menjalin committed romantic relationship dan gaya komunikasi yang terjadi di dalamnya berdasarkan stereotip peran gender dan konteks sosio kultural di Indonesia. Peneliti menggunakan paradigma konstruktivis, pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dan strategi studi kasus. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan observasi, wawancara mendalam dengan informan kunci yang telah dipilih menggunakan purposive dan convenience sampling, serta data sekunder studi kepustakaan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode analisis data tematik. Hasilnya adalah pasangan gay yang menjalin committed romantic relationship memiliki keunikan dalam menjalin dan memelihara hubungan mereka. Stereotip peran gender yang selama ini berlaku pada pasangan heteroseksual (pria dan wanita) menjadi suatu hal yang dapat dinegosiasikan dan disesuaikan sesuai dengan kesepakatan dari pasangan gay tersebut. Selain itu, berdasarkan teori genderlect styles communication, terdapat modifikasi gaya komunikasi dalam gender pria jika mengaitkannya dengan faktor orientasi seksual, yaitu pasangan gay yang menjalin committed romantic relationship menunjukan gaya komunikasi pria yang mementingkan status (report talk), sementara mereka juga mengadopsi gaya komunikasi wanita (rapport talk) secara bersamaan. Rekomendasi penelitian selanjutnya adalah dapat melihat gaya komunikasi pria gay dalam konteks lain, seperti keluarga, pertemanan, dan pekerjaan. This research focuses on the communication styles of gay couples in committed romantic relationships. The purpose of this study is to identify and describe gay couples in establishing committed romantic relationships and the communication styles that occur in them based on gender role stereotypes in the socio-cultural context of Indonesia. The researcher uses a constructivist paradigm, a descriptive qualitative approach, and a case study strategy. The researcher conducted observation, in-depth interviews with key informants who had been selected using purposive and convenience sampling, and also collected secondary data to back up the findings. This research uses the thematic data analysis method. The result is that gay couples who have committed romantic relationships are unique in establishing and maintaining their relationship. Gender role stereotypes that have been applied to heterosexual couples (male and female) are not seen to the gay couple who always try to negotiate and adjust their relationship. In addition, based on the genderlect styles communication theory, there is a modification of the communication style in the male gender if applied sexual orientation factor. Moreover, gay couples who have committed romantic relationships exhibit a male communication style that focuses on status (report talk), while they also adopt a female communication style (rapport talk) simultaneously. The recommendation for further research is to see the communication style of gay men in other contexts, such as in family, friendship, or work relationships. |
