Komunikasi antarbudaya merupakan interaksi yang terjadi antara dua orang dengan latar belakang kebudayaan berbeda, meliputi suku bangsa, ras, dan kelas sosial. Penelitian ini menganalisis bentuk komunikasi antarbudaya yang terjadi pada tokoh utama dalam film Oeroeg, Johan, seorang Belanda yang membangun relasi dengan para penduduk asli Hindia Belanda. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Analisis bentuk komunikasi antarbudaya tokoh Johan dikaji menggunakan teori Semiotika Roland Barthes untuk memaknai simbol dan tanda yang ada pada film. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat bentuk komunikasi antarbudaya pada hubungan tokoh Johan dengan para penduduk asli Hindia Belanda, seperti pada hubungan tokoh Johan dan Oeroeg dan interaksi Johan dengan Deppoh. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya dinamika dalam proses komunikasi antarbudaya tokoh Johan dengan para penduduk asli Hindia Belanda akibat penerapan nilai dan sistem sosial dari situasi kolonialisme. Meski demikian, persoalan tersebut dapat diatasi karena adanya penerapan nilai budaya Hindia Belanda dan emosi khusus dari tokoh Johan kepada penduduk asli Hindia Belanda. Hadirnya nilai- nilai tersebut merupakan wujud dari berhasilnya proses komunikasi antarbudaya dibawah situasi politis kolonialisme yang membayangi hubungan ini. Intercultural communication is an interaction that occurs between two people with different cultural backgrounds, including ethnicity, race, and social class. This study analyzes the form of intercultural communication that occurs in the main character in the film Oeroeg, Johan, a Dutchman who builds relationships with the natives of the Dutch East Indies. This study uses a qualitative descriptive research method. The analysis of the form of intercultural communication of the character Johan is studied using Roland Barthes' Semiotics theory to interpret the symbols and signs in the film. The results of the study show that there is a form of intercultural communication in the relationship between the character Johan and the natives of the Dutch East Indies, such as in the relationship between Johan and Oeroeg and Johan's interaction with Deppoh. The results of the study show that there is a dynamic in the process of intercultural communication between the character Johan and the natives of the Dutch East Indies due to the application of values and social systems from the colonial situation. However, this problem can be ruled out due to the application of Dutch East Indies cultural values and the special emotion of the character Johan towards the natives of the Dutch East Indies. The presence of these values is a manifestation of the successful process of intercultural communication under the political situation of colonialism that overshadowed this relationship. |
