Secondary data is obtained through a literature study that comprises of journal articles, books, and other scholarly materials. Theories used in this study include the concept of masculinity by R.W. Connell and salaryman masculinity as described by Romit Dasgupta. This study has found that in the movie Kaze Tachinu, salaryman masculinity is represented by a majority of characters, such as Honjo, Kurokawa, and supported by other various side characters. This is shown via dialog, the physical appearance of characters, and other numerous aspects that find resonance in the salaryman masculinity ideology. Unlike other salarymen, his faith to work finds root in his pure ambition. Aside from that, he is highly empathetic and faces a dilemma when he is forced to choose between his job and his lover, Nahoko. |
