Memori kolektif Jepang mengalami kontestasi dikarenakan adanya inkonsistensi dari narasi yang selalu digaungkan dan proses edukasi yang dilakukan secara repetitif dan berubah-ubah. Novel The Memory Police dapat dikategorikan sebagai situs memori yang merepresentasikan isu pembentukan memori kolektif Jepang. Metode kualitatif sebagai alat untuk mendapat data dengan sumber data studi pustaka dalam rangka mengkaji proses pembentukan memori kolektif Jepang serta keterlibatan elit di dalam prosesnya. Pembentukan memori kolektif Jepang dikaji dengan kerangka konseptual memori kolektif dengan pendekatan instrumentalisme dan determinisme historis. Pembentukan memori kolektif Jepang merupakan hasil dari berbagai peristiwa yang melibatkan proses mengingat dan melupakan. Kedua proses ini dipengaruhi oleh bagaimana elit membentuk narasi dan melimitasi informasi apa saja yang dianggap membahayakan moral bangsa Jepang. Namun demikian, pembentukan memori kolektif Jepang tidak hanya bersifat top-down oleh elit penguasa tetapi juga memiliki sifat bottom-up yang merupakan bentuk kontestasi terhadap narasi resmi pihak otoritatif. The Memory Police hadir sebagai situs memori yang merepresentasikan kontestasi pembentukan memori kolektif Jepang. The Memory Police mengonfrontasi pembentukan memori kolektif Jepang yang selama ini merupakan konstruksi dari elit penguasa Jepang. Japan's collective memory experiences contestation due to the inconsistency of the narratives that are always echoed and carried out in a repetitive and changing manner. The novel The Memory Police can be classified as a memory site that represents the issue of the shaping of Japan’s collective memory. Qualitative methods as a tool for obtaining data using literature review to examine the process of memory construction and the involvement of the elite in the process. The shaping of Japanese collective memory is examined using conceptual framework of collective memory using instrumentalism and historical determinism approaches. The formation of Japanese collective memory is the result of events involving remembering and forgetting process. These two processes were influenced by how the elite formed narratives and limited any information deemed harmful to the morale of the Japanese people. However, the shaping of Japanese collective memory is not only top-down in nature created by the ruling elite but also has a bottom-up nature which is a form of contestation against the official narrative. The Memory Police exists as a memory site that represents the contestation for the formation of Japan’s collective memory. The Memory Police confronts the official narration which has been a construction of the Japan’s ruling elite. |
