Peristiwa 1965 dan 1998 adalah salah satu sejarah traumatis bangsa Indonesia yang memiliki dampak besar terhadap eks tapol, aksi mahasiswa, dan keluarganya. Disertasi ini berupaya mengungkapkan pengalaman traumatis korban kekerasan Orde Baru dan perjuangan mereka dari peristiwa 1965 dan 1998 dalam novel Pulang (2012) dan Laut Bercerita (2017). Untuk dapat menyampaikan pengalaman traumatis itu, karya sastra meniru mekanisme trauma. Hal tersebut menyebabkan trauma bukan hanya ada pada tataran isi namun juga tecermin dalam strukturnya. Dengan menggunakan metode symptomatic reading, konsep kekerasan negara (Kira, Ashby & Lewandowski, 2013), memori kolektif dan personal (Halbwachs, 1992), dan narasi trauma (Caruth, 1996) analisis dilakukan bukan hanya menggali makna yang ada dipermukaan teks melainkan mengungkap hal yang tidak disampaikan atau disembunyikan oleh teks. Melalui struktur narasi trauma, kedua teks merepresentasikan resistensi sebagai penggambaran korban kekerasan Orde Baru yang berdaya yang melawan dan bernegosiasi dengan opresi rezim Orde Baru. Resistensi mereka untuk mempertahankan hidup melalui peristiwa tersebut di bawah opresi dan persekusi menunjukkan kemungkinan upaya mengatasi traumanya. Hal ini direpresentasikan dalam bentuk bersuara, pemilihan saluran untuk lepas dari trauma, dan working through. Dengan demikian dialektik kematian dan kesintasan, bungkam dan besuara dalam kedua teks tersampaikan tidak hanya melalui gambaran kekerasan dan traumanya, tetapi juga melalui narasi resistensi untuk lepas dari kekerasan Orde Baru.
The events of 1965 and 1998 are part of the traumatic history of the Indonesian nation which had a major impact on former political prisoners, student activists and their families. This dissertation seeks to reveal the traumatic experiences of victims of New Order violence and their struggles from the events of 1965 and 1998 in the novels Pulang (2012) and Laut Bercerita (2017). To convey this traumatic experience, literary works imitate the mechanisms of trauma. This causes trauma not only at the content level but also reflected in the structure. By using the symptomatic reading method, the concept of state violence (Kira, Ashby & Lewandowski, 2013), collective and personal memory (Halbwachs, 1992), and trauma narratives (Caruth, 1996) the analysis is carried out not only to explore the meaning on the surface of the text but also to reveal things not conveyed or hidden by the text. Through a trauma narrative structure, both texts represent resistance as a depiction of empowered victims of New Order violence who resisted and negotiated with the oppression of the New Order regime. Their resistance to survive through these events under oppression and persecution suggests a possible attempt to overcome the trauma. This is represented in speaking up, choosing channels to escape trauma, and working through. In this way, the dialectic of death and survival, silence and voice in both texts is conveyed not only by images of violence and trauma, but also by narratives of resistance to escape the violence of the New Order. |
