Abstrak
Media telah menjadi pusat informasi dan penyebaran ideologi yang efektif di masa krisis seperti pandemi Covid-19. Media membentuk pola pikir masyarakat terkait sebuah fenomena dengan informasi yang dimediasi kepada pembaca. Penelitian ini mengkaji bagaimana fenomena rasisme dikonstruksi lewat penggunaan ilustrasi media berbasis portal berita yang inheren, menggambarkan diskriminasi terhadap ras tertentu dan memicu penyebaran kebencian. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode analisis tekstual dan pendekatan semiotika Rolland Barthes untuk melihat bagaimana teks dan citra gambar diberikan konteks terhadap sebuah fenomena. Berdasarkan aspek asosiasi teks-gambar menunjukkan orang Asia khususnya masyarakat Tiongkok diposisikan sebagai tokoh yang bertanggung jawab terhadap peristiwa pandemi sehingga rentan mengalami diskriminasi.
......Media has become a central source of information and effective dissemination of ideologies, especially during crises such as the Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, it shapes the mindset of society regarding a phenomenon through information mediated to readers. This research examines how the phenomenon of racism is constructed through the use of inherent portal news-based media illustrations, depicting discrimination against certain races and triggering the spread of hatred. The study employs textual analysis and Roland Barthes's semiotic approach to examine how text and image are contextualized within a phenomenon. Based on the association of text and image aspects, it is evident that Asians, especially the Chinese community, are positioned as responsible figures for the pandemic, making them vulnerable to discrimination.
