"Penggunaan komposit sandwich dalam berbagai aspek kehidupan semakin meningkat belakangan ini. Komposit sandwich banyak digunakan karena mempunyai rasio modulus terhadap berat yang tinggi, rasio kekuatan terhadap berat yang tinggi, ketahanan aus, hingga ketahanan terhadap korosi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membandingkan pengaruh teknik fabrikasi yang digunakan terhadap sifat mekanik komposit sandwich. Komposit sandwich dibuat dari serat gelas anyam dan resin poliester tak-jenuh sebagai kulit dan busa poliuretan kaku sebagai inti menggunakan dua teknik fabrikasi yakni adhesive-cold press dan Vacuum Assisted Resin Infusion (VARI). Pada komposit sandwich kemudian dilakukan uji tarik, uji tekan, uji lentur, dan uji densitas. Untuk komposit sandwich yang difabrikasi dengan teknik adhesive-cold press, didapatkan nilai kuat tarik, kuat tekan, kuat lentur dan densitas berturut-turut sebesar (1,55 ± 0,01) MPa, (1,30 ± 0,01) MPa, (11,04 ± 0,45) MPa, dan (0,29 ± 0,01) g/cm3. Sementara itu, untuk komposit sandwich yang difabrikasi dengan teknik VARI, didapatkan nilai kuat tarik, kuat tekan, kuat lentur dan densitas berturut-turut sebesar (2,25 ± 0,42) MPa, (1,41 ± 0,01) MPa, (13,84 ± 0,42) MPa, dan (0,33 ± 0,01) g/cm3. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa sifat mekanik dari komposit sandwich yang difabrikasi dengan teknik VARI lebih tinggi dari pada yang difabrikasi dengan teknik adhesive-cold press. Tidak ada perbedaan mode kegagalan yang terjadi pada kedua tipe komposit sandwich. Untuk uji tarik dan tekan, mode kegagalan yang terjadi adalah kerusakan inti busa, sedangkan untuk uji lentur adalah kerusakan kulit bagian atas. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa ikatan inti dan kulit dengan kedua teknik sangat baik.

The use of sandwich composites in various aspects of life has increased lately. Sandwich composites are widely used because of their high modulus-to-weight ratio, high strength-to-weight ratio, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance. This study aimed to compare the effect of the fabrication techniques used on the mechanical properties of sandwich composites. The sandwich composites were fabricated from woven glass fiber reinforced unsaturated polyester resin as skin and rigid polyurethane foam as core using two fabrication techniques, namely adhesive-cold press and Vacuum Assisted Resin Infusion (VARI). The sandwich composites were then tested for tensile, compressive, flexural, and density tests. For the adhesive-cold pressed sandwich composites, the values of tensile strength, compressive strength, flexural strength, and density were (1.55 ± 0.01) MPa, (1.30 ± 0.01) MPa, (11.04 ± 0.45) MPa, and (0.29 ± 0.01) g/cm3, respectively. Meanwhile, for the VARI fabricated sandwich composites, the values of tensile strength, compressive strength, flexural strength, and density were (2.25 ± 0.42) MPa, (1.41 ± 0.01) MPa, (13,84 ± 0.42) MPa, and (0.33 ± 0.01) g/cm3, respectively. These results indicated that the mechanical properties of sandwich composites fabricated with the VARI technique were higher than those fabricated with the adhesive-cold press technique. For the tensile and compressive tests, the failure mode was foam core failure, while for the flexural test was upper skin failure. These results indicated that the bonding of the core and skin with both techniques is excellent."

"The production and/or worldwide consumption of chicken at an industrial or domestic level lead to a considerable quantity of chicken feather residue as a waste by-product. Chicken feathers have a possible application in preparing lightweight composites. The use of chicken feathers as a constituent to prepare hybrid composites leads to a solution for disposal of the feathers. In this study, chicken feathers were used as filler material to prepare hybrid composites. Different varieties of composites were prepared by a chicken feather hand-layup technique, and by varying the percentage weight of the chicken feathers. Specimens were prepared and tested according to ASTM standards. The 10 wt. % chicken feather-filled hybrid composites indicated the maximum tensile strength (193 MPa), flexural strength (148 MPa) and impact strength (3.65 Joules). Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) analysis was carried out to find the fracture and interfacial characteristics of the composites. The results indicated that, these composites can be used in domestic, automobile and structural applications which carry nominal loads."

"Menyongsong era pasar bebas terutama di Asia Tenggara pada tahun 2003, mendorong pimpinan perusahaan mengambil langkah-langkah penting ke depan untuk meningkatkan kualitas produk serta nama baik perusahaannya masing-masing. Perhatian publik (masyarakat, pemerintah, badan usaha, investor) saat ini tidak hanya terpaku pada mutu produk tetapi juga bagaimana produk tersebut diproses dari awal hingga akhir. Tujuan penelitian yang dilakukan mulai 17 September hingga awal Desember 1999 pada PT Gunung Putri Graha Mas, selaku produsen fiberglass reinforced & composite plastik, adalah untuk meningkatkan efisiensi produksi dengan metode pencegahan pencemaran (pollution prevention). Berdasarkan pengamatan langsung di pabrik, keterangan pihak perusahaan, bimbingan dosen, serta studi literatur didapatkan hasil bahwa sebagian besar produksi telah berjalan dengan baik. Walaupun demikian masih terdapat kekurangan pada bidang pengecatan (spraying), penggunaan bahan baku, kontrol polusi udara, hasil akhir, penanganan limbah, dan kondisi lingkungan kerja. Untuk meningkatkan efisiensi melalui program pencegahan pencemaran pada bidang-bidang di atas, dapat dilakukan antara lain : penggantian spray gun menjadi Airless spray gun, substitusi acetone dengan dibasic ester, perbaikan prosedur dan teknik kerja, penambahan blower baru, penanganan limbah secara benar, dan perbaikan kondisi lingkungan kerja. Diharapkan dengan program pencegahan pencemaran ini akan memberikan dampak positif kepada perusahaan sehingga industri fiberglass sekarang menjadi industri berwawasan lingkungan."

"ABSTRAK
Telah dilakukan penelitian pengaruh tanggapan detektor kamera gamma SPECT dan evaluasi pengaruhnya pada pemeriksaan fungsi tiroid dan ginjal dengan citra planar. Pengukuran tanggapan detektor menggunakan sumber 1 mCi sampai 25 mCi 99mTc diletakkan dalam fantom akrilik pada kedalaman 10 cm, yang dideteksi bergantian oleh kedua detektor dengan kondisi geometri sama. Hasil tanggapan detektor 1 relatif lebih tinggi 6 sampai 16 %, namun kedua detektor masih mempunyai linieritas yang tinggi. Pemeriksaan tiroid dilakukan pada 5 orang pasien dengan 2 kali pemeriksaan dan pemindaian selama 5 menit, setiap pasien menerima 4 mCi 99mTc perteknetat dan pengambilan citra dengan detektor 1. Selanjutnya pasien menerima 2 mCi 99mTc perteknetat dan pengambilan citra dengan detektor 1 dan 2. Evaluasi hasil citra 4 mCi lebih jelas, kontras tinggi dan noise rendah dibanding citra 2 mCi. Evaluasi nilai uptake tiroid dengan kedua pemeriksaan tidak ada perbedaan signifikan. Pemeriksaan ginjal dilakukan pada 4 orang pasien dengan 2 kali pemeriksaan dalam interval waktu 5 bulan. Setiap pasien diberikan aktivitas 4 mCi 99mTc DTPA dan pemindaian selama 20 menit menggunakan detektor 1 dan 2 secara bergantian. Evaluasi hasil laju cacah detektor 1 relatif lebih tinggi dan hasil citra detektor 1 relatif lebih jelas. Evaluasi nilai uptake ginjal, GFR dan fungsi transit waktu dengan kedua pemeriksaan tidak ada perbedaan yang signifikan. Tanggapan detektor 2 telah mengalami degradasi dibanding detektor 1 namun masih linier terhadap aktivitas, sehingga belum menunjukkan perubahan yang signifikan untuk pemeriksaan klinis fungsi tiroid dan ginjal.

ABSTRACT
It has been a research on the impact of SPECT gamma detector response and the evalution of impact on the examination of thyroid and kidney function with planar imaging. Research conducted by measuring the detector response 99mTc source of 1 mCi to 25 mCi at depth of 10 cm acrylic phantom, that is detected by both detector with the same geometry condition by turns. The result of detector 1 response is relatively higher 6 to 16% but the both detector has high linearity. Thyroid examination was done 5 patients with twice of examination and scanning for 5 minutes, each patient receives 4 mCi 99mTc pertechnetat and imaging with detector 1. Then, patient receives 2 mCi 99mTc pertechnetat and imaging with detector 1 and 2. The result of 4 mCi image evaluation is obtained clearer images, high contrast and low noise than 2 mCi image. The evaluation of thyroid uptake for two of examination did not differ significantly. Renal examination was done 4 patients with twice of examination in time interval 5 months. Each patient receives 4 mCi 99mTc DTPA and scanning for 20 minutes using detector 1 and 2 by turns. Evaluation of count rate detector 1 is higher relatively and the result of image detector 1 is clearer relatively. Evaluation of renal uptake, GFR and time transit function did not differ significantly. Response of detector 2 has been degradation compared with detector 1 but is still linear with respect to activity, so it hasn?t showed no differ siginificantly for thyroid and kidney function examination.

"The present doctoral dissertation contributes to the analysis of glass panels subjected to blast load, concentrating on monolithic and laminated glass prior to glass fracture. A straightforward graphical solution for monolithic glass is presented to identify maximum deformation and maximum principal stress for small and large deformations for static and idealized blast load without software. On the basis of experimental tests, load duration factors kmod for impact and blast load design for annealed glass, heat strengthened glass and fully tempered glass are proposed and design strength values for impact and blast design based on the European and German standards are suggested. As a result, blast pressure capacity charts for monolithic fully tempered glass plates subjected to idealized blast load are presented. Moreover, design temperatures of interlayer in blast design situation based on empirical data in accordance with Eurocode are determined for vertical double glazed and triple glazed units for Germany, showing that laminated glass should not be regarded with monolithic glass approach in general."
