"This book is the latest of Dave Ulrichʹs treatises on gaining sustainable competitive advantage through the transformation of human resource management. Over the years, Ulrichʹs books on HR transformation would fill an average bookshelf -- 15 in all. As a result of the many books on the subject, the latest book, HR Transformation, could easily be regarded as one of the many -- a repetition of the story of how an organization can be improved through professional HR. Yet, this is not the case; this latest book is clearly built on two of the best previous books, Human Resource Champions (1997) and The HR Value Proposition (2005), and now deserves to be on the top of the stack. By most any standard it is a "must read." Most of Ulrichʹs books have been written with co-authors and published by Harvard Business School Press. This latest, published by McGraw Hill, is with Wayne Brockbank, also co-author of The HR Value Proposition, along with first-time book co-authors, Justin Allen, Jon Younger, and Mark Nyman. Dave Ulrich is a professor at the University of Michiganʹs Ross School of Business. All of the authors have a great deal of experience as teachers of managers and professionals, along with expertise as human resource consultants for organizations. "Pembangunan hotel adalah salah satu jenis dari sekian banyak pembangunan gedung, baik secara nasional maupun Internasional. Pembangunan hotel di Indonesia khususnya di Jakarta sangatlah pesat, sehingga membantu serta mempunyai peranan dalam laju perekonomian negara. Selain ltu pembangunan hotel sebagal aktivitas manusia dalam melakukan kegiatannya dalam meningkatkan ekonomi manusia itu sendiri, sehingga pertumbuhan hotel bisnis menimbulkan persaingan yang sangat ketat di sektor perhotelan. Persaingan dalam bisnis perhotelan mendorong semangat dalam hal konstruksi. Hal ini diharapkan menjadi pertimbangan dalam membangun sebuah hotel mulai dari tahap perancangan sampai ke pelaksanaan yang bertujuan mengejar biaya seefisien mungkin, mutu yang terbaik dengan waktu sesuai yang disyaratkan. Dalam konstruksi bangunan hotel melibatkan para pihak yaitu pemilik, pemerintah, kontraktor, konsultan perencana, dan konsultan manajemen konstruksi.
Dalam penelitian ini diteliti peran manajemen konstruksi dalam hal pengaruh tingkat penguasaan manajemen value dan manajemen sumber daya (material, peralatan dan manusia) yang diambil dari Construction Management Body Of Knowledge(CMBOK by Haltenhoff) dengan kegiatan-kegiatan manajemen konstruksi pada tahap pelaksanaan konstruksi bangunan hotel terhadap kinerja biaya.
Dari penelitian didapatkan 3 variabel yaitu, (i) Penguasaan value management tentang tahap penjadwalan kerja, (ii) Penguasaan material management tentang identitas dan pengkodean material/peralatan, (iii) Penguasaan human resource material tentang kemampuan sumber daya fisik (manusia,material dan peralatan) sangat berkorelasi (berhubungan) dengan kegiatan-kegiatan Manajemen Konstruksi (i) Jadwal pengadaan material, tenaga dan peralatan, (ii) Mengawasi pemakaian bahan dan peralatan-peralatan pada tahap pelaksanaan konstruksi bangunan hotel dan ke lima variabel tersebut terbukti sangat berpengaruh dalam peningkatan kinerja proyek, dalam hal ini kinerja biaya.

Construction of hotel building is one type of many building construction types. It is happened both in national area and international area. Construction of hotel building in Indonesia especially in Jakarta is increasing recently. It has important role to the growing economy of Indonesia. On the other hand, growth of the number of hotel building construction has been increasing the business competition in the sector of hotel services. Competition in the business of hotel services becomes major consideration to determine whether to build a new hotel building. And it has been pushing the efficiency level, quality requirements and time requirement of the construction activities of hotel building construction. Construction of hotel building involves some stakeholders, who are: the owner, the government, the contractor, the engineering design consultant and the construction management consultant.
This research investigated the roles of the construction management consultant in term of the effect of its understanding level of value management and resource management (consist of: materials, equipments and workforces) adopted from the Construction Management Body of Knowledge (CMBOK) towards the construction management activities in construction phase of hotel building In term of project cost.
This research found that there are three variables, which are: first, understanding level of value management on work scheduling; second, understanding of material management on the identification and coding of materials; and third, understanding of human resource management on abilities of physical resources (i.e.: labors, materials and equipments). These three variables have significant correlation to two activities of construction management, which are: first, procurement scheduling of materials, labors, and equipments and second, control of usage of materials and equipments on the construction phase of hotel building construction. These five variables proved to have contribution to the cost performance of hotel building construction.
