This thesis aims to investigate the impact of the NIL introduction on the investment decisions of foreign and national firms in Indonesia. By using business field-level data of the investment-planned values from 2005 to 2018, the analysis shows, first, the NIL introduction may generate the investment inflows, where Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) favors the “fully open” business fields over the “conditionally open” ones, while the opposite condition applies for the Domestic Direct Investment (DDI)s. Second, there is a parallel movement of crowding-in effect between foreign and national firms responding to the investment opportunities open to both parties. As a possible policy implication, this study suggests that more detailed and transparent information should be provided in the NIL to guarantee its effectiveness. Additionally, since the government is looking for the best way to attract more investment into the country—specifically FDI—while protecting national firms, the stipulation of a Positive Investment List is worth considering.

The aims of this research are to investigate the effect of Board of Directors?(BoD) effectiveness toward Real Earning Management (REM) through sales manipulation, overproduction, and a reduction in discretionary expenses. Furthermore, it also examines the impact of the effectiveness of the BoD on overall methods which are aggregately measured through the REM Index. Samples used in this research are non-financial companies which are listed on the Indonesian Stock Exchange in the year of 2009 and 2010.The result shows that the effectiveness of the BoD can neither limit the REM which is conducted through activities including sales manipulation, overproduction, a reduction in discretionary expenses nor control the REM index. This shows that the Corporate Governance mechanism proxied by the BoD is not effective enough for controlling and monitoring the REM activities."

"Most people are scared stiff by investment risk. But what most people don't know is that the biggest risk is simply investor behavior. Irrational and fearful, investors routinely chase after investment rainbows offering high returns with zero risk . . . or sell off stocks in a panic when the market is down . . . or hoard their money in T-bills, which historically have just barely outpaced inflation. The only way to eliminate such self-destructive behavior is to get hard facts on how the stock market really works. Fortunately, anyone can learn -- not just the analysts on Wall Street -- with The Informed Investor. Packed with eye-opening charts and graphs, this powerful book shows how to develop an investment strategy that yields the highest return with the lowest risk."
