This research aims to examine the intersectional background and women's relational autonomy in making decision to become mail-order bride from Indonesia to China. This is qualitative research with a case study approach, which uses intersectionality and relational autonomy analysis framework. This study traces the life history of two women survivors from Jakarta and in-depth interviews. The results show mail-order bride victims are women with diverse backgrounds and life experiences. Therefore, there is no single dominant factor that leads the women to become victims. There is an intersection of the background and oppressive experience of women in the structural, disciplinary, hegemonic, and interpersonal domains that influence their meaning of the concept of marriage and cause certain women are vulnerable to becoming victims. This research concludes that the main factor that causes women to become victims in the mail-order bride industry is intersectional factors, which include economic, socio-cultural, interpersonal relationships, and life experiences. All factors are intertwined with one another, therefore there is no single dominant factor that causes them to become victims of mail-order bride. In the decision-making process, women are not passive victims. The decision-making process, from the formation of desires, the formation of competencies to be autonomous, to the autonomous action of women, is influenced by the intersection of backgrounds, oppressive experiences, social values, cultural practices, literature work, and women's social relations with the mail-order bride syndicate, parents, children, and significant others. They have relational autonomy because they decided on their own to marry Chinese men, based on considerations of the intersection of various complex social determinants."

This thesis is a study of how the European Union and the Republic of the Russian Federation has a different perspective on this phenomenon. Russia recently become the highest mail order brides sending country in the world, although although Russia has ratified the United Nations Protocol to Prevent 2000, Eradicate Trafficking in Persons, especially women and children (CtoC). This shows that the Russians do not see MOB as a practice of human trafficking. It Proven with a ratification of CTOC by Russia, the number of women involved in the MOB in Russia has not decreased. Meanwhile, in the perspective of the European Union this phenomenon is a form of human trafficking. EU even launched various programs to prevent MOB. This study explores more than 200 web sites that contain content and related information about MOB services"
