"Advances in Group Processes publishes theoretical analyses, reviews, and theory based empirical chapters on group phenomena. The series adopts a broad conception of "group processes." This includes work on groups ranging from the very small to the very large, and on classic and contemporary topics such as status, power, trust, justice, social influence, identity, decision-making, intergroup relations and social networks. Previous contributors have included scholars from diverse fields including sociology, psychology, political science, economics, business, philosophy, computer science, mathematics and organizational behavior. Volume 33 brings together papers related to a variety of topics in small groups and organizational research. The volume includes papers that address theoretical and empirical issues related to balance theory, generalized exchange, identity contests and corporate social responsibility. Other contributions examine minority influence, status and identity processes, gender stereotypes and voice pitch as a measure of stress. "Tesis ini membahas proses pembentukan orang kuat lokal di Jakarta Pasca Orde Baru. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan desain studi kasus. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan jaringan sosial dan identitas sosial berperan besar dalam proses pembentukan orang kuat lokal di Jakarta. Dalam lanskap sosial politik Indonesia pasca orde baru dimana sumber-sumber daya (sosial, politik, dan ekonomi) tidak lagi terpusat, jaringan sosial mampu menciptakan ruang bagi seorang agen/aktor untuk memperoleh atau meminjam berbagai sumber daya tersebut dari berbagai sumber untuk tujuan-tujuan instrumental dirinya. Sementara identitas sosial sebagai sumber pemaknaan yang sangat penting bagi manusia berperan dalam menciptakan solidaritas kelompok berbasis identitas. Kelompok elit dapat menggunakan solidaritas kelompok ini dengan menawarkan tujuan-tujuan yang dianggap sebagai tujuan bersama meskipun secara samar, tujuan-tujuan tersebut sangat menguntungkan elit tersebut.

This thesis describes the process in the making of local strongmen in the Jakarta Post New Order. This study is a qualitative research with case study design. The results showed social networks and social identity plays a major role in the formation of local strong men in Jakarta. In the social landscape of Indonesian politics after the new order in which the resources (social, political, and economic) is no longer centralized, the social networks is able to create space for an agent / actor to obtain or borrow these resources from various sources for his instrumental purposes. While social identity as a source of meaning that is very important for the human, has a role in creating a group solidarity based on identity. The elite group can use this group solidarity by offering some goals which is considered as a common goal though vaguely, these goals are very profitable for elite."

"Skripsi ini membahas gejala perwujudan kelompok hobi dalam kehidupan sosial masyarakat Jakarta, yaitu kelompok hobi Harley-Davidson. Kelompok hobi ini dalam kenyataanya memiliki identitas tertentu sebagai identifikasi perbedaan dengan kelompok-kelompok hobi lainnya serta persamaan bagi sesama anggota kelompok. Identitas kelompok hobi ini dapat diidentifikasi melalui bentuk atribut-atribut yang digunakan oleh para anggota yaitu motor Harley-Davidson, pakaian khusus, helm dan berbagai aksesoris. Para anggota kelompok motor Harley-Davidson memang umumnya berasal dari kelas sosial atas seperti tercermin dari latar belakang profesi mereka yaitu pejabat pemerintah dan pengusaha papan atas. Melalui kegiatan interaksi sosial antar anggota berbagai peluang bisnis pun dapat dinegosiasikan dan disepakati diantara mereka. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini memfokuskan pada signifikansi identitas sosial dalam memanfaatkan peluang bisnis dan menunjukan status sosial. Kegiatan penelitian ini menerapkan metode dan pendekatan kualitatif dengan teknik wawancara mendalam dan pengamatan terlibat.

This undergraduate thesis examines urban social phenomenon of a hoby group whose members are fond to ride big bike motor particularly Harley-Davidson. This group as a matter of fact has and reflect an identity to distinct itself from other similiar groups and to identify their social and economic characteristics among the members. It can be identified by the use of attributes such as leather jacket, boots, and other Harley-Davidson’s accessories. All of these attributes are symbol which belong to members upper class social status. Most of the members have professions such as high level government official and rich enterpreneurs. Therefore, membership, in this matter, function as means to show their social status. Besides that, thiis hobby group functions as well providing arenas too deal business matters among members. This research was carried out based on qualitative methods, in paricular applying depth interview and observation."
