"This book offers a comprehensive linguistic analysis of contemporary US television series. Adopting an interdisciplinary and multimethodological approach, Monika Bednarek brings together linguistic analysis of the Sydney Corpus of Television Dialogue with analysis of scriptwriting manuals, interviews with Hollywood scriptwriters, and a survey undertaken with university students about their consumption of TV series. In so doing, she presents five new and original empirical studies. The focus on language use in a professional context (the television industry), on scriptwriting pedagogy, and on learning and teaching provides an applied linguistic lens on TV series. This is complemented by perspectives taken from media linguistics, corpus linguistics and sociocultural linguistics/sociolinguistics. Throughout the book, multiple dialogue extracts are presented from a wide variety of well-known fictional television series, including The Big Bang Theory, Grey's Anatomy and Bones. Researchers in applied linguistics, discourse analysis, critical discourse analysis, corpus linguistics, sociolinguistics and media linguistics will find the book both stimulating and unique in its approach."

"Penelitian ini merupakan kajian mengenai karakteristik ragam bahasa remaja dalam Program Televisi NPO (Nederlandse Publieke Omroep), SKAM NL. Ragam bahasa remaja memiliki karakteristik yang unik dari segi bunyi dan bentuk. Data penelitian ini berupa dialog antar tokoh, yang ada dalam film serial SKAM NL yang tayang pada 16 September 2018 - 4 Juni 2019). Serial televisi SKAM NL merupakan serial mengenai kehidupan remaja Belanda yang masih duduk di bangku sekolah. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan metode penelitian deskriptif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan teknik simak dengar dan studi transkripsi kemudian data transkripsi dianalisis secara fonologis dan morfologis. Data yang dikumpulkan dianalisis dengan teori ragam bahasa remaja (Rigney, 2008), asonansi dan aliterasi (Pradopo, 1997), dan morfologi ragam bahasa remaja (Cornips, 2004). Hasil analisis penelitian yang ditemukan dalam dialog tokoh SKAM NL menunjukan bahwa asonansi dan aliterasi digunakan untuk menekankan topik utama pada dialog dan perubahan bentuk yang terdapat pada ragam bahasa remaja tidak mengubah makna asli dari kata dalam ragam tersebut.

This research focuses on the Dutch youth language’s Characteristics used in the NPO (Nederlandse Publieke Omroep) Television Program, SKAM NL. The variety of youth languages has unique characteristics in terms of sound and form. This research data is in the form of dialogues between characters, which are in the tv series SKAM NL aired on September 16, 2018 - June 4, 2019). The television series SKAM NL is a series about the lives of Dutch teenagers who are still in school. This research is qualitative research with a descriptive research method. The data was collected by listening to technique and transcription study and then the transcription data were analyzed phonologically and

morphologically. The data collected were analyzed by the theory of youth language variety (Rigney, 2008), assonance and alliteration (Pradopo, 1997), and the morphology of youth language variety (Cornips, 2004). The results of the research analysis found in the dialogues of SKAM NL characters show that assonance and alliteration are used to emphasize the main topic in the dialogue and the changes in the form found in the youth language variety do not change the original meaning of the words in the variety.

"Netflix merupakan media untuk menonton streaming yang sudah berdiri sejak 1998. Saat ini, Netflix telah hadir di 190 negara dan menyediakan serial dan film dengan berbagai macam genre. Penggunaan audio-visual untuk belajar bahasa asing pun bukan hal yang jarang. Sudah banyak proses belajar daring yang mengimplementasi teknik belajar menggunakan audio-visual dan dinilai efektif. Artikel ini membahas tentang efektivitas serial Netflix sebagai media pembelajaran bahasa asing bagi mahasiswa Program Studi Prancis Universitas Indonesia. Metode kualitatif dengan studi kepustakaan digunakan dalam melakukan penelitian. Dengan menggunakan teknik analisis kesalahan berbahasa oleh Tarigan (2011), teori fonetik dan fonologi bahasa Prancis oleh Léon (1993), teori fonetik bahasa Indonesia oleh Chaer (2013), dan teori interferensi oleh Weinreich (2010), ditemukan bahwa serial Netflix mampu memberikan paparan kosakata bahasa asing baru yang cukup baik bagi penontonnya. Namun, paparan yang diterima dengan cukup baik tidak sejalan dengan kemampuan berbahasa subjek penelitian. Kemampuan berbahasa Prancis subjek penelitian yang sudah menonton serial berbahasa Prancis berjudul Family Business di Netflix tidak mengalami perubahan yang signifikan dengan begitu Netflix terbukti belum mampu menjadi media pembelajaran bahasa asing yang efektif bagi pemelajar bahasa asing.

Netflix is a media for streaming that has been established since 1998. Currently, Netflix is available in 190 countries and provides series and films of various genres. The use of audio-visuals to learn foreign languages is very common. There are many online learning processes that implement audio-visual learning techniques and are considered effective. This article discusses the effectiveness of Netflix series as a foreign language learning media for students of the French Studies Programme at the University of Indonesia. Qualitative method with literature study is used in conducting the research. Using Tarigan's (2011) language error analysis technique, Léon's (1993) theory of French phonetics and phonology, Chaer's (2013) theory of Indonesian phonetics, and Weinreich's (2010) theory of interference, it is found that Netflix series is able to provide a fairly good exposure to new foreign language vocabulary for its audience. However, the well-received exposure is not in line with the language proficiency of the research subjects. The French language skills of the research subjects who had watched the French series Family Business on Netflix did not change significantly, therefore Netflix proved not to be an effective foreign language learning medium for foreign language learners."
