"Tesis ini membahas konstruksi tubuh perempuan urban Jakarta dalam budaya konsumen Indonesia seperti tercermin dalam Miss Jinjing Belanja Sampai Mati (2008) melalui sosok Amelia Masniari. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan Cultural Studies dengan menggunakan konsep Featherstone mengenai tubuh dalam budaya konsumen dan konsep patriarki untuk menganalisis teks. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tubuh perempuan urban Jakarta dalam budaya konsumen Indonesia sebagaimana tercermin melalui sosok Amelia dalam teks dikonstruksi oleh ideologi kapitalisme, konsumerisme dan ideologi patriarki. Ketiga ideologi tersebut menunjukkan bahwa tubuh perempuan urban Jakarta merupakan situs pertarungan ideologi-ideologi dominan yang muncul dalam budaya konsumen Indonesia. Kehadiran ideologi-ideologi tersebut tidak saling meruntuhkan tetapi saling mengukuhkan satu sama lain dan pada akhirnya terjadi koherensi antar masing-masing ideologi.

The thesis investigates Jakarta urban woman body construction in which reflected in Miss Jinjing Belanja Sampai Mati (2008) through the character of Amelia Masniari. This is a qualitative research with cultural studies approach using Featherstone concept about body in consumer culture and patriarchal concept to analize the text. Research Findings show that Jakarta urban woman body in Indonesia consumer culture which is reflected in Amela’s character is constructed by capitalism, consumerism, and patriarchal ideology. Those ideologies show that Jakarta urban woman body is a site of ideological contestation which is dominated in Indonesia’s consumer culture. The existence of those ideologies are not falling out but supporting each other and finally emerge coherence in each ideologies."

"Artikel ini membahas mengenai dinamika keikutsertaan Indonesia dalam kontes kecantikan Miss Universe selama tahun 1984 – 2005. Miss Universe merupakan kontes kecantikan berskala internasional yang tertua di dunia, kontes ini sangat populer karena banyaknya negara-negara yang ikut serta dalam ajang tersebut. Indonesia menjadi salah satu negara yang ikut serta dalam kontes Miss Universe sejak tahun 1974. Sejak tahun tersebut Indonesia sering mengirim perwakilan untuk menjadi peserta di ajang Miss Universe walaupun sempat absen beberapa tahun. Selama mengikuti kompetisi tersebut banyak reaksi yang timbul di kalangan masyarakat dan juga pemerintah, ada yang mendukung dan tidak sedikit juga yang menolak bahkan melarangnya. Penelitian mengenai kontes kecantikan di Indonesia sudah pernah dilakukan dengan sudut pandang sejarah dan juga ilmu komunikasi, namun belum ada yang membahas mengenai keikutsertaan Indonesia secara khusus ke ajang internasional seperti Miss Universe. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode sejarah yang terdiri dari empat tahap yaitu tahap heuristik atau pengumpulan data dan sumber sejarah melalui koran sejaman, wawancara dan dokumen. Kedua yaitu tahap verifikasi untuk mengkritik sumber-sumber yang telah terkumpul di tahap heuristik, ketiga yaitu tahap intepretasi untuk menyusun benang merah dari peristiwa sejarah dari sumber-sumber yang sudah valid dan terakhir adalah tahap historiografi untuk menuliskan hasil penelitian sejarah. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa dinamika mengenai keikutsertaan Indonesia dalam kontes Miss Universe tahun 1984 – 2005 terjadi akibat perbedaan antara kedudukan wanita Indonesia saat itu dengan visi dan misi yang diusung dalam sebuah kontes kecantikan sehingga dinamika tersebut juga mempengaruhi prestasi dan pencapaian Indonesia dalam mengikuti kontes Miss Universe.

This article discusses about the dynamics of Indonesia's participation in the Miss Universe beauty pageant during 1984 – 2005. Miss Universe is the oldest international beauty pageant in the world, this contest is very popular because of the many countries participating in the event. Indonesia has been one of the countries that have participated in the Miss Universe contest since 1974. Since that year, Indonesia has often sent representatives to participate in the Miss Universe contest even though it had been absent for several years. During the competition, many reactions arose among the community and also the government. Some support it, but not a few refuse or even banned it. Research on beauty pageants in Indonesia has been done from a historical point of view as well as communication studies, but no one has discussed Indonesia's participation specifically in international events such as Miss Universe. This research uses the historical method which consists of four stages. The first stage is heuristics or data collection and historical sources through contemporary newspapers, interviews, and documents. The second is the verification stage to criticize the sources that have been collected in the heuristic stage. The third is the interpretation stage to compile a common thread of historical events from valid sources and the last is the historiography stage to write down the results of historical research. The results of this study indicate that the dynamics regarding Indonesia's participation in the Miss Universe contest in 1984 – 2005 occurred due to the difference between the position of Indonesian women at that time and the vision and mission carried out in a beauty contest so that these dynamics also affect Indonesia's achievement in participating in the Miss Universe contest."

"Tesis ini membahas tentang konstruksi identitas Skinhead di dalam komunitas Skinhead di Jakarta dan sekitarnya dengan menggunakan penelitian kualitatif deskriptif analitis serta dampak pada praktik komodifikasi yang terjadi dalam bidang industri budaya Jakarta, era 1996 hingga 2014, dimana narasi besar dari kekuatan modernitas yaitu teknologi, perubahan ekonomi dan sosial budaya menjadi landasan global yang mempengaruhi proses tersebut. Hasil dari kesimpulan bahwa konstruksi identitas Skinhead di Jakarta dan sekitarnya serta praktik komodifikasi yang dilakukan tidak dapat dilepaskan dari tujuan dan cita-cita komunitas dan individu Skinhead dalam melakukan pemasaran identitas dan subkultur yang berproses melalui dua cara yaitu eksploitasi dan eksistensi dengan mengalihfungsikan menjadi entitas ekonomi dan mereproduksi kesadaran ideologis demi keberlangsungan generasi Skinhead. Selain itu, peneltian ini juga akan menunjukan keberadaan komunitas subkultur Skinhead di tengah-tengah banyaknya identitas di dalam kota urban yang merespon dominasi budaya berupa negosasi sebagai alternatif diluar sekolah dan pekerjaan dengan mempertahankan nilai lokal Indonesia.

This thesis discusses the Skinhead subculture identity construction in Jakarta and its sorrounding and the impact on commodification practices by using qualitative descriptive analitic research that occur in various areas of cultural industries era of 1996 ? 2014, in which grand narrative of modernity, including technology, economic and sociocultural change, become a global platform that affect the process. The conclusion indicates that the Skinhead subculture construction and the practice of commodification which conducted in various arena of cultural industries can not be separated from the aims and ideals of the Skinhead's subculture's identity project in attempt to do marketing identities and subcultures that proceeds through a two-way, namely exploitation and existence by converting to economic entity and reproduce the ideological consciousness for the sake of Skinhead regeneration. Beside that, this research is to show the existence of Skinhead subculture community amongs many other identities in the urban city that responds the culture domination by negotiating as the alternative activity outside the school and occupation by maintaining the local value owned by the parents culture.

"Women’s March Jakarta atau WMJ merupakan sebuah bagian baru dari sejarah perkembangan gerakan perempuan di Indonesia dan pada tahun 2018, isu-isu seperti penuntutan hak-hak perempuan dan penghapusan kekerasan berbasis gender menjadi beberapa tuntutan utama. Dalam meningkatkan kinerjanya, WMJ menggunakan media digital sebagai wadah untuk meningkatkan kesadaran masyarakat tentang gerakan WMJ tersendiri dan isu-isu yang diangkat sehingga WMJ berpartisipasi dalam digital feminism activism (DFA), yakni dimana strategi aktivisme luring berlanjut ke ranah daring. Aktivisme daring tersebut membantu meningkatkan visibilitas WMJ dan perjuangannya untuk mengedepankan hak-hak perempuan dan masyarakat minoritas. Dari segi visibilitas, perbincangan dan perputaran wacana tentang isu perempuan dan gender menjadi semakin kuat dan bergulir dan dalam prosesnya, rasa solidaritas antar perempuan juga dapat diciptakan. Melalui penelusuran hashtag #womensmarchjkt2018 di Instagram, telah ditemukan bahwa kepemilikan tubuh perempuan adalah isu yang paling dominan pada unggahan poster yang dibawa peserta WMJ 2018. Maka, tesis ini menginvestigasi bagaimana narasi tersebut dihadirkan melalui 20 unggahan poster Instagram WMJ 2018. Di samping itu, tesis ini juga menginvestigasi bagaimana aktivisme luring dan daring yang dilakukan oleh WMJ 2018 melalui hasil penelitian dapat kontekstualisasikan pada gerakan perempuan dan aktivisme feminisme di Indonesia secara umum seperti potensi dari WMJ dan perbaikan yang dapat dilakukan.

Women's March Jakarta or WMJ is a relatively new part of the history of women's movement in Indonesia and in 2018, issues such as the fulfillment of women's rights and the abolition of gender violence became its important demands. To improve its performance, WMJ took advantage of digital media to raise awareness about WMJ as a movement, its pressing issues, hence it's participating in digital feminism activism (DFA) where WMJ's offline practices are continued online. In terms of visibility, discussion and turnover of discourse related to women's and gender issues become stronger and ever-flowing and in that process, solidarity between women can happen. Through the hashtag #womensmarchjkt2018 di Instagram, it is discovered that ownership women's bodies is most dominant as reflected by the uploads of 20 posters brought by WMJ 2018participants. In addition to that, this thesis also investigates how WMJ 2018's offline and online activism is contextualized to the women's movement and feminism activism in Indonesia as a whole such as its potentials and improvements."
