ABSTRACT In a multicultural society, there is a potential for conflict caused by cultural differences.
However, this possibility of a disharmony can be transformed into an intercultural bound if
each party can open up and be willing to undergo a process of adaptation to the exclusion of various prejudices. This kind of problem often showed in Canadian Literature. Gabrielle Roy,
a female Canadian writer, presents it in one short story autobiography titled L' Italienne. This
article discusses the interactions that occur in a society of different cultures by using the
concept of social interaction, social identity, cultural identity and stereotypes based on the
theory of narrative structure?s Roland Barthes and sequence of Schmitt and Viala. ;In a multicultural society, there is a potential for conflict caused by cultural differences.
