"ABSTRAKTujuan penggunaan humor dalam sebuah komedi situasi dan karakternya dapat bertolak belakang degan satu sama lain. Oleh karenanya, studi analisis terhadap cara keja humor bagi karakter Chandler Bing dari sitkom Friends membawa pendekatan baru terhadap penggambaran isu maskulinitas dalam media populer. Artikel ini melihat tanggapan humoris Chandler terkait isu humor mock-macho. Dengan menggunakan analisis karakter terhadap humor yang digunakan saat melakukan mekanisme pertahanan diri terhadap isu maskulinitas, ditemukan perbedaan antara penggunaan humor sebagai mekanisme pertahanan diri dan humor mock-macho. Mock-macho menghilangkan garis pemisah antara maskulin dan feminin sedangkan mekanisme pertahanan diri memastikan parameter stereotipe maskulintas.

ABSTRACTThe purpose of humor from the situational comedy and its character might contradict to one another. Therefore, an analytical study of how humor works for the character Chandler Bing of the hit sitcom Friends bring a new approach on how the portrayal of masculinity issues is brought up in popular media. This article explores Chandler rsquo;s hilarious responses regarding the issue of mock-macho humor. By doing a character analysis on his defense mechanism in which he uses in making jokes concerning masculinity issues, it is discovered that the purpose of humor between humor as a defense mechanism and as mock-macho is different. Mock-macho assures that masculinity has a blurred border with femininity while defense mechanism sets the parameter of stereotypical masculinity."

Koestler (Act of Creation,Picador, 1978)."
