"Nanophotonics has emerged rapidly into technological mainstream with the advent and maturity of nanotechnology available in photonics and enabled many new exciting applications in the area of biomedical science and engineering that were unimagined even a few years ago with conventional photonic engineering techniques. Handbook of Nanophotonics in Biomedical Engineering is intended to be a reliable resource to a wealth of information on nanophotonics that can inspire readers by detailing emerging and established possibilities of nanophotonics in biomedical science and engineering applications. This comprehensive reference presents not only the basics of nanophotonics but also explores recent experimental and clinical methods used in biomedical and bioengineering research. Each peer-reviewed chapter of this book discusses fundamental aspects and materials/fabrication issues of nanophotonics, as well as applications in interfaces, cell, tissue, animal studies, and clinical engineering. The organization provides quick access to current issues and trends of nanophotonic applications in biomedical engineering. All students and professionals in applied sciences, materials, biomedical engineering, and medical and healthcare industry will find this essential reference book highly useful."

"This book presents a thorough discussion of the physics, biology, chemistry and medicinal science behind a new and important area of materials science and engineering: polymer nanocomposites. The tremendous opportunities of polymer nanocomposites in the biomedical field arise from their multitude of applications and their ability to satisfy the vastly different functional requirements for each of these applications. In the biomedical field, a polymer nanocomposite system must meet certain design and functional criteria, including biocompatibility, biodegradability, mechanical properties, and, in some cases, aesthetic demands.

Biomedical engineering has become an important component in the development of health technology in Indonesia over the past two decades. The undergraduate programs established by several universities are expected to become a meeting point between engineering faculties and the health sciences cluster (RIK), as well as providing solutions to the challenges of biomedical technology. However, the understanding of the role of biomedical engineering in the context of Indonesian health policy and its implementation in health facilities still needs to be improved. This research aims to understand the significance of the role of the biomedical engineering profession in the formulation of Indonesian health policies and their implementation in health facilities. The Grindle policy analysis method used in this research allows for in-depth observation of the integration of the role of biomedical engineering in Indonesian health policy, based on interviews with experts in health technology, health policy, and biomedical engineering. This study found that the main problem in the development of the biomedical engineering profession lies in the lack of legal standing due to the absence of clear associations and advocacy platforms. Furthermore, strengthening regulations to encourage the allocation of biomedical engineering personnel can serve as an evaluation of existing policies. It is hoped that this research will initiate further discussions on the productive contributions of biomedical engineering in enhancing the Indonesian health industry."
