"This book provides a detailed analysis of the controversial privatisation of the Berlin Water Company (BWB) in 1999. As with other cases of privatisation around the world, the city’s government argued there was no alternative in a context of public debts and economic restructuring. Drawing on post-structuralist theory, the analysis presented here steps outside the parameters of this neat, straightforward explanation. It problematises the ‘hard facts’ upon which the decision was apparently made, presenting instead an account in which facts can be political constructions shaped by normative assumptions and political strategies. A politics of inevitability in 1990s Berlin is revealed, one characterised by depoliticisation, expert-dominated policy processes and centred upon the perceived necessities of urban governance in the global economy. It is an account in which global and local dynamics mix, where the interplay between the general and the specific, between neoliberalism and politicking, and between globalisation and local actors characterise the discussion."

"This book asks how particular news events become global iconic events, while others fade into oblivion. Focusing on journalists covering the fall of the Berlin Wall and on subsequent retellings of the event (from Legoland reenactments to segments of the Berlin Wall installed in shopping malls), it discusses how storytellers build up certain events so that people in many parts of the world remember them for long periods of time. The East German border opening that we now summarize as the fall of the Berlin Wall was in fact unintentional, confusing, and prompted in part by misleading media coverage of bureaucratic missteps. But its global message is not about luck or accident or happenstance in history. Incarnated as a global iconic event, the fall of the Berlin Wall has come to communicate the momentary power that vulnerable ordinary people can have. The events story, branded into a simple phrase, a short narrative and a recognizable visual scene, provides people from China to Turkey to the United States with a contemporary social myth. This myth shapes our debates about separation walls and fences, borders and refugees, and the possibilities of human freedom to this day."

The image of Berlin city 1900 1930 can be seen in the poems Auf der Terrasse des Caf Josty Paul Boldt 1912 and Besuch Vom Lande Erich K stner 1929 . Qualitative methods are used in this article to discuss the focus of the study in descriptive and in depth way. This article are using Henri Levebre 39 s space production theory in The Production of Space 1991 and Louis Wirth 39 s theory of city and public space in ldquo Urbanism as a Way of Life 1938 . The analysis of these two poems shows that Berlin at the beginning of the twentieth century was really run into a major changes, it can be seen from the characteristics and interactions of its society. Berlin became a city with a heavy traffic, buildings in every corner of the city, and Berlin turns into a city with a pretty horrible image in the eyes of Berlin poets."
