Over 42% of international students come from Asia and this is predicted to continue with the strong presence of students from China, India, Korea and Japan continuing. " ABSTRAK Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara distres psikologis dan optimisme pada mahasiswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif kepada 1024 mahasiswa aktif di seluruh Indonesia. Teknik pengambilan sampel yang dilakukan adalah convenience sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengukur distres psikologis adalah Hopkins Symptoms Checklist-25 HSCL-25 . Sementara itu, instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengukur optimisme adalah Life Orientation Test-Revised LOT-R . Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan negatif yang signifikan antara distres psikologis dan optimisme r = 0,303, N = 1024, p < 0,01, two-tails . Hasil analisis data demografis menunjukkan bahwa jenis kelamin memengaruhi optimisme dan status pernikahan dapat memengaruhi distres psikologis.

ABSTRACT This research was conducted in order to seek the relationship between psychological distress and optimism among college students. Quantitative research method was conducted to 1024 active college students in Indonesia. The sampling technique used was convenience sampling. The instrument used to measure psychological distress was Hopkins Symptom Checklist 25 HSCL 25 . Meanwhile, the instrument used to measure optimism was Life Orientation Test Revised LOT R . The result indicated negative and significant relationship between psychological distress and optimism r 0,303, N 1024, p 0,01, two tails . Demographic data analysis revealed that gender influences optimism and marriage status influenced psychological distress."
