Kemunculan organisasi dari berbagaipenjuru dunia membuat sebuah gebrakan awal dari lahirnya berbagai macamperaturan tentang satwa dan tindakan yang harus dilakukan. GSI sebagai organisasianimal welfare menjalankan fungsi dan perannya di Indonesia. Budaya organisasitidak terlepas oleh GSI yang nantinya akan membentuk sebuah aktifitas dan strategiuntuk mencapai sebuah tujuan organisasi. Peran kerja organisasi GSI tidak terlepasdari bantuan masyarakat, serta bantuan donatur dan sponsor yang membentukhubungan relasi produksi satu sama lain.

"This book investigates the historical significance of the American animal welfare movement at home and overseas from the second great awakening to the second world war, a time span encompassing the nations shift from muscle power to motorization. Dedicated primarily to laboring animals at its inception, the humane movement grew to include virtually all areas of human/animal interaction. "Keberadaan Kebun Binatang Surabaya sebagai tempat untuk menjaga keberlangsungan spesies yang terancam punah menuai kritik karena terdapat indikasi adanya kekejaman terhadap satwa di dalamnya. Melalui sudut pandang species justice, manusia seharusnya bertanggung jawab terhadap spesies lain, namun berdasarkan kasus yang terjadi di Kebun Binatang Surabaya manusia merupakan subjek utama yang melakukan kekejaman terhadap satwa. Berbagai kasus yang menjadi temuan data dalam tulisan ini menunjukkan adanya bentuk kekejaman terhadap satwa yang berupa kematian satwa, kehilangan, dan kelalaian yang menyalahi kondisi positif dari animal welfare. Penulis menyimpulkan bahwa pihak pengelola Kebun Binatang Surabaya telah melakukan pelanggaran hak-hak satwa karena lalai menyediakan perlindungan terhadap satwa di dalamnya sehingga perlu dilakukan penindakan dengan tegas. Meskipun uraian data mengenai kondisi satwa Kebun Binatang Surabaya tergolong kekejaman terhadap satwa, namun belum ada payung hukum yang kuat. Penggolongan kekejaman terhadap satwa sebagai tindak pelanggaran pidana dapat menjadi solusi untuk mencegah terjadinya kekejaman terhadap satwa lainnya.

The existence and role of Surabaya National Zoo as a safe haven for endangered species intice many critics due to indications of acts of cruelty against animals practiced inside the zoo by the its staff and management. Based on the perspective of species justice, humans are responsible for the well-being of other species. However, based on the case that took place at Surabaya National Zoo, humans were the main perpetrators of acts of cruelty against animals. Many cases included in this paper indicates acts of cruelty that inflicts harm to the extent of causing death, the loss of animals from captivity, and the unprofessionalism in the zoo keeping practices which violates the possitve conditions of animal wellfare.

The author of this paper concluded that the zoo's management have committed violations against animal rights due to their failure in providing safe haven for the animals under their captivity and must be severely punished. Even though the data in this paper are categorized as acts of cruelty against animals, there has yet to be any law that protects animals from said cruelty. The construction of animal cruelty as a violation against the law may be the solution in preventing other and/or possible cases of acts of cruelty against animals."

"[ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji dampak perusahaan yang termasuk dalam indeks syariah terhadap struktur modal perusahaan. Pengukuran tingkat leverage menggunakan proksi debt to equity ratio (DER), dan jangka waktu utang dengan proksi short term debt (STD). Kemudian dilihat pengaruhnya pada kinerja perusahaan dengan proksi return on equity (ROE), dan market to book ratio (MBR). Penelitian ini menggunakan data 640 perusahaan non finansial yang terdaftar di Bursa Efek Indonesia (BEI) dan Bursa Malaysia dengan priode tahun 2011 hingga 2014. Model regresi yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah data panel melalui metode OLS Pooled dengan Generalized Least Square (GLS). Penelitian menghasilkan dua kesimpulan yang pertama, jenis perusahaan berbasis syariah merupakan faktor yang dapat mempengaruhi pemilihan struktur modal perusahaan yang kedua pada akhirnya faktor determinan struktur modal ini juga mempengaruhi kinerja perusahaan.

"ABSTRACTKeberadaan lumba-lumba untuk pertunjukan satwa merupakan praktik yang sudah dilarang di berbagai belahan dunia, namun tidak di Indonesia. Berlindung dibawah dalih konservasi dan edukasi, praktik ini menuai kritik karena terdapat indikasi kekejaman terhadap lumbalumba dalam prosesnya. Peraturan-peraturan yang ada bukan menjadi penghalang bagi penyelenggara untuk tetap menjalankan bisnisnya. Proses pemanfaatan satwa tersebut penulis kategorikan menjadi tiga bagian, yaitu perekrutan, penangkaran dan pelatihan, serta pertunjukan. Berbagai temuan data dalam tulisan ini menunjukan adanya bentuk kekejaman terhadap lumba-lumba yang melanggar kelima prinsip kebebasan satwa dan tingkat kekejaman paling tinggi ada pada proses penangkaran dan pelatihan. Fenomena ini juga akan dijelaskan melalui konsep species justice dan non-speciesist criminology yang akan dibahas di dalam perspektif green criminology.

ABSTRACT

The existence of dolphins for animal shows is a practice that is banned in various parts of the world, but not in Indonesia. Using conservation and education as an excuse, this practice receives criticism as there is some indication that animal cruelty is involved in the process. The existing rules couldn't prevent the organizers in running their business. Here, the writer divided the animal exploitation process into three parts, which are the recruitment, the captivity and the training, as well as the show. Many findings in this journal show that there are some forms of cruelty towards the dolphins that are violating the Five Freedoms for Animals, where the worst form of cruelty takes place in the process of capturing and training. This phenomenon will also be explained using the concept of species justice and nonspeciesist criminology which will be discussed from the perspective of green criminology."

"Ketertarikan pada sifat antar tindakan human dengan non-human animal semakin meningkat saat kita memasuki abad ke-21. Jelas bahwa terdapat banyak masalah yang penting terkait kesejahteraan hewan yang menuntut perhatian segera dan cermat. Sudah begitu lama hewan dipandang ada hanya untuk memenuhi kebutuhan manusia saja. Hal ini terjadi dalam posisi manusia yang dianggap sebagai makhluk simbolik dalam pendeketannya yang begitu antroposentrik. Hadirnya antroposentrisme memberikan konsekuensi bahwa manusia menggunakan posisi sentralnya itu untuk memanfaatkan non manusia untuk kepentingan pribadi dengan mengatasnamakan kepentingan bersama semua makhluk hidup. Bahwa kehidupan bukan hanya milik manusia, dan bukan hanya soal pengalaman manusia saja, melainkan bagaimana cara kita menidentifikasi pengalaman hewan yang lain itu dengan pendekatan bahasa. Melalui pendekatan zoosemiotik kita dapat meminimalisir kecenderungan antroposentris yang destruktif dan eksploitatif. Zoosemiotik, atau studi hewan yang diinformasikan secara semiotika dengan lebih luas, berupaya menggambarkan makna dan tanda dalam hubungan pada hewan dan antara hewan dengan budaya manusia. Hal tersebut dimungkinkan karena pandangan spesiesme akan bergeser sedikit demi sedikit, memungkinkan manusia untuk tidak lagi menganggap status yang lebih rendah pada hewan dan menganggap mereka bukan sebagai individu, dan bukan sebagai objek dan sarana untuk memenuhi keinginan manusia. Kemudian, terbuka kemungkinan cukup besar bagi pendekatan zoosemiotik ini sebagai proses kepedulian dan penghayatan bersama yang dilakukan melalui kemungkinan terjalin nya pertukaran tanda bahkan proses komunikasi antara manusia dan hewan dalam relasi nya.

Interest in the nature of human and non-human animal action increases as we enter the 21st century. It is clear that there are many important issues related to animal welfare that demand immediate and careful attention. For a long time, animals were thought to exist only to meet human needs. This happens in the position of humans who are considered as symbolic creatures in their approach that is so anthropocentric. The presence of anthropocentrism provides the consequence that humans use their central position to utilize non-humans for personal gain in the name of the common interests of all living things. That life does not only belong to humans, and is not only a matter of human experience, but how we identify other animal experiences with a language approach. Through a zoosemiotic approach we can minimize the destructive and exploitative anthropocentric tendencies. Zoosemiotics, or animal studies that are informed more broadly by semiotics, attempt to portray the meaning and sign in relationships in animals and between animals and human culture. This is possible because the view of species will shift little by little, allowing humans to no longer consider lower status in animals and consider them not as individuals, and not as objects and means to fulfill human desires. Then, there is a big possibility for this zoosemiotic approach as a process of mutual concern and appreciation carried out through the possibility of intertwining the exchange of signs and even the process of communication between humans and animals in their relationships.
