"ABSTRACT
The government's efforts to reduce the maternal mortality rate (MMR) in Indonesia
have not shown significant results. Based on the 2012Indonesian Demographic and
Health Survey (IDHS), the MMR has significantly increased from 228 in2007 to 359
in 2012; far beyond the MDG's target. The Ministry of Health found that there are
three main medical factors for maternal mortality: hemorrhage, eclampsia, and
infection. However, poverty and vulnerability of women in the society due to gender
inequality, the lack of public awareness on the maternal health, the lack of health
facilities utilization, and the distance between health facilities and the pregnant
women's residence are some examples of factors that also contribute to the high
MMR in Indonesia. This study aims to find a comprehensive model to reduce MMR
in lndonesia by conducting a participatory action research. Specifically, the study
will: (1) find a comprehensive intervention model, and (2) provide comprehensive
and multilevel policy recommendations to policymakers and local government to
reduce the MMR, Methodologically, this study not only uses mixed methods by
combining qualitative and quantitative approaches, but also integrates a participatory
action research approach with the strategy of planned change as a social intervention
strategy. The data analysis is conducted with the spatial analysis approach, using
geographical information system technique."

"ABSTRACT
Economic growth and urbanization have changed global dietary habits and caused nutrition transition
globally. Urban people, especially in developing countries, eat away from home, consuming more polished
grains, fats and animal product, refined sugar and processed foods compared to rural people (Helman,
2000). The change in consumption pattern which leads to nutritional change, in the long run, may be
harmful for health of the people, including adolescents. Some studies indicate the change in consumption
pattern among the adolescents worldwide. The change in eating habits among young people due to some
chronic diseases, are allegedly caused by adolescence’s unhealthy diet. A survey of middle and high school
students in Minnesota shows that the youth consume more calories from fast food meals; they have
difficulty getting healthy food as there is higher proportion of unhealthy food, therefore making them
prone to being overweight (Widome, Neumark‐Sztainer, Hannan, Haines, & Story, 2009). A qualitative
study that identifies barriers to healthy eating among second level schools across Ireland showed that
aggressive marketing by fast food franchises draw adolescents to these outlets although they know it is
unhealthy; youth have autonomy over their eating behaviour and tend to eat unhealthily once they are
independent (Stevenson, Doherty, Barnett, Muldoon, & Trew, 2007)."

"Abstrak
Using Community Organizing Participatory Action Research (COPAR) as the main framework for the multiple data-gathering methods utilizedin the study, the researcher addressed the following objectives: (1) to assessthe educational needs of the Lumad and peasant communities in light of theimplementation of Republic Act 10533, and (2) to developa curriculum that addresses the needs of the Lumad and peasant communitiesconsidering the learning competencies stipulated by RA 10533. Freires methodof education was maximized as participants in the research included men, women, and children who learned toassess their role in their community as agents of change with the goal ofachieving social transformation through education. Still adhering to Freires method of education, the intended curriculum that was designed is simple andeasy to understand, integrative, and perceptive of the social realitiessurrounding the Lumads and other peasant learners. From the state approvedcurriculum, the new alternative curriculum ensured the presence of lessons andactivities with a positive influence on all the aspects of a childs development: physical, emotional, social, linguistic, aesthetic, and cognitivethrough the application of the outcomes-based education (OBE) framework. Curriculumdesign also utilized the Makabayan (nationalist), Makamasa (mass-oriented), andSiyentipiko (scientific) (MMS) orientation, which is based on rooted assessmentof the needs of the community learners. The integration of OBE with MMSframework is expected to result in transformative education that can producelifelong learners who will aspire to be part of national development whilepromoting their identity and the good of their communities. The researchprocess undertaken proved that community immersion provides an opportunity forself reflexivity that can result in a more inclusive curriculum design. Lastly it can be concluded that community organizing in education is a painstaking andendless process of collaborations, which, if purposeful and sustained, canpositively impact the communities."

Indonesia broadcasting landscape in the post 1998, has basically changed after the deliberation of the new Broadcasting Law (UU Nomor 32 Tahun 2002). Under the previous law, the power to regulate TV and radio belongs to The Department of Propaganda (Departemen Penerangan). Nowadays, it belongs to the public which is represented by the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI). By law, KPI is a state body to regulate the broadcasting matters. But the ministry of communication and information and also the established broadcasting capitalists do not satisfied with the law. The contestation among the state, industry, and civil society in the broadcasting landscape has not finished yet. It's still continuing till the Government Regulations on Broadcasting signed by the President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
The purpose of this research is to find out the roots of the contestation and to formulate the recommendations for KPI, as an institution and also for the commissioner/including myself, to manage the contestation facing the broadcasting industry and government. However, the broadcasting landscape must be regulated so that it can give the benefit for public. The Process of this research will be dedicated to reach the final purpose, i.e. to change the centralized broadcasting system to local network system.
The finding of this research is that the contestation between the Market Regulation vis a vis Public Regulation. Who is really got the benefit of the government regulations on broadcasting? The answer is the established broadcasting capitalists in Indonesia. How about the Department of Communication and Information (Depkominfo)? Depkominfo is just a slave of the established broadcasting capitalist. And KPI? KPI has not been successful yet as a frontier soldier to uphold the public ownership on broadcasting arena. Actually, the contestation is to be continued. The Public Regulation still has the opportunity to survive. This research provides recommendations to enforce the public regulation.
This Participatory Action Research has also found the bipolarization of the actors in the broadcasting landscape, i.e. government and the industry on one faction against parliament (DPR), KPI, and civil society. This bipolarization runs dialectically with the discrepancy in the broadcasting political economy structure so that the Government Regulations on Broadcasting doesn't obey the Broadcasting Law.
