"Tujuan dari penulisan skripsi ini adalah untuk mengetahui sejauh mana proses demokratisasi yang sedang berlangsung di Myanmar setelah dilaksanakannya pemilihan umum tahun 2010 dengan tujuan untuk mengubah kepemimpinan di Myanmar. Analisis yang digunakan untuk melihat permasalahan yaitu menggunakan teori demokratisasi dari Samuel P. Huntington, teori demokrasi dari Thomas Mayer dan Robert Dahl, dan sistem pemilihan dari Dr. Ichlasul Amal. Penulis menggunakan metode kualitatif dan menggunakan studi literatur dalam teknik pengumpulan data dan analisis data. Hasil dari penulisan ini adalah bahwa dengan terpilihnya pemerintahan yang baru melalui pemilihan umum semakin memberikan peluang terhadap perubahan politik di Myanmar dengan menjalankan prinsip demokrasi pada pemerintahan Myanmar yang baru. Ini merupakan langkah awal dari sebuah proses perubahan yang sedang berlangsung di Myanmar.

The purpose of this thesis is to determine the extent of the ongoing democratization process in Myanmar after the implementation of the general election in 2010 which aimed to change the leadership in Myanmar. The analysis is used to see the problems of using the theory of democratization from Samuel P. Huntington, democratic theory of Thomas Mayer and Robert Dahl, and the electoral system from Dr. Ichlasul Amal. The authors used qualitative methods in the study of literature. Also, the writer used data collection techniques and data analysis. The result/conclusion of this thesis is: this revolution of a new government through general elections had increasingly provide opportunities for political change in Myanmar by applying the principles of democracy in Myanmar's new government. This is the first step of a process of change in Myanmar."

"ABSTRAKThis article discusses the influence of democratic political system on economic performance of a country. It examines Dambisa Moyo's claim that democracy could pose a negative influence on economic growth, in the context of post-2010 Myanmar's political and economic situation. A simple observation on Myanmar's situation tends to present a contadictory situation to Moyo's argument, showing that democratisation supports economic growth. With a closer observation on Myanmar's democratisation process, this article affirms that the democratisation in Myanmar is followed by the improvement of economic institutions, a critical factor for growth. Meanwhile, it is also observed that the democratisation process led to the establishment of a "hybrid" system, in which the features of the former regime can still be found in many aspects of governance."

"ABSTRAKPemerintahan Myanmar berada di bawah pemerintahan junta militer selama lebih dari 20 tahun. Banyaknya permasalahan yang terjadi selama pemerintahan militer membuat masyarakat Myanmar menuntut adanya demokrasi. Penelitian ini akan mengkaji peran partai National League for Democracy NLD dalam mendorong demokratisasi di Myanmar. NLD mencoba memberi perubahan ke arah demokrasi dengan masuk ke pemerintahan dan mempengaruhi kebijakan. Dimulai dengan pemilu 2010 yang mendatangkan titik terang terbukanya pemerintahan sipil di Myanmar yang sedikit demi sedikit mengikis pemerintahan otoriter junta milter. Disusul diadakannya Pemilu sela 2012 yang didominasi NLD yang menjadikan NLD sebagai oposisi di parlemen dan mempengaruhi kebijakan yang dihasilkan. Pada Pemilu 2015, NLD meraih kemenangan dengan jumlah suara terbanyak. Keberhasilan NLD mendapatkan suara mayoritas membuat jalan ke arah demokrasi di Myanmar lebih terbuka. Dalam mengkaji peran NLD terhadap terjadinya demokratisasi di Myanmar, tulisan ini menggunakan teori demokratisasi Samuel Huntington.

ABSTRACTMyanmar government has been under the military junta for more than 20 years. Many problems occurred during the military administration made the people of Myanmar demanding democracy. This study will examine the role of the National League for Democracy (NLD) party in encouraging democratization in Myanmar. The NLD is trying to bring a change toward democracy by entering government and influencing policy. Started with the 2010 elections, it was a bright spot for the opening of a civilian government in Myanmar that gradually eroded the authoritarian junta`s government. Followed by the election held in 2012 which was dominated by the NLD which made the NLD as opposition in parliament and influence the resulting policy. In the 2015 election, the NLD won with an absolute number of votes. The NLD's success earned a majority vote making the road towards democracy in Myanmar more open. In examining the role of NLD towards democratization in Myanmar, this study uses Samuel Huntington`s democratization theory."
