"Social tagging (including hashtags) is used over platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, WordPress, Tumblr and YouTube across countries and cultures, meaning that one single hashtag can link information from a variety of resources. This new book explores social tagging as a potential form of linked data and shows how it can provide an increasingly important way to categorize and store information resources. The internet is moving rapidly from the social web embodied in Web 2.0, to the semantic web (Web 3.0), where information resources are linked to make them comprehensible to both machines and humans. Traditionally, library discovery systems have pushed information, but did not allow for any interaction with the users of the catalogue, while social tagging provides a means to help library discovery systems become social spaces where users could input and interact with content. The editors and their international contributors explore key issues including the use of hashtags in the dissemination of public policy, the use of hashtags as information portals in library catalogues, social tagging in enterprise environments, the linked data potential of social tagging, [and] sharing and disseminating information needs via social tagging. Social Tagging in a Linked Data Environment will be useful reading for practising library and information professionals involved in electronic access to collections, including cataloguers, system developers, information architects and web developers"

"Linked Data for Digital Humanities provides insights into how digital technologies can enrich and diversify humanities scholarship and make it pioneering in the digital age.
Written in non-specialist language, the book illustrates how information is captured, published, represented, accessed, and interpreted using computational systems and, in doing so, shows how technologies actively shape the way we understand what we encounter. Focusing as it does on underlying Web architecture and projects accessible online, the book has an inherently international focus. The interdisciplinary case study examples include bibliographic data from works published in England between 1470 and 1700; literature from ancient Iraq; jazz performances, predominantly from the USA in the 1930s; and even reach as far as an alien, fictional future. Whilst these case study examples span vast spatio-temporal distances, they all share a common thread in the use of the Linked Data information publication paradigm. Using existing computer science methods, as well as processes such as ontology development and database design, the book also includes reflections on practical considerations and offers advice about how to take institutional policies, socio-cultural sensitivities, and economic models into consideration when implementing Linked Data projects.
Linked Data for Digital Humanities discusses technological issues in the context of Humanities scholarship, bridging disciplines and enabling informed conversations across disciplinary boundaries. It will be of interest to humanities scholars, computer and data scientists, and library and information scientists."

"The advent of increasingly large consumer collections of audio (e.g., iTunes), imagery (e.g., Flickr), and video (e.g., YouTube) is driving a need not only for multimedia retrieval but also information extraction from and across media. Furthermore, industrial and government collections fuel requirements for stock media access, media preservation, broadcast news retrieval, identity management, and video surveillance. While significant advances have been made in language processing for information extraction from unstructured multilingual text and extraction of objects from imagery and video, these advances have been explored in largely independent research communities who have addressed extracting information from single media (e.g., text, imagery, audio). And yet users need to search for concepts across individual media, author multimedia artifacts, and perform multimedia analysis in many domains. This collection is intended to serve several purposes, including reporting the current state of the art, stimulating novel research, and encouraging cross-fertilization of distinct research disciplines. The collection and integration of a common base of intellectual material will provide an invaluable service from which to teach a future generation of cross disciplinary media scientists and engineers."

"The contributions assembled in this volume illustrate the band-width of applications of the Linked Data paradigm for representative types of language resources. They cover lexical-semantic resources, annotated corpora, typological databases as well as terminology and metadata repositories. The book includes representative applications from diverse fields, ranging from academic linguistics (e.g., typology and corpus linguistics) over applied linguistics (e.g., lexicography and translation studies) to technical applications (in computational linguistics, natural language processing and information technology).
This volume accompanies the Workshop on Linked Data in Linguistics 2012 (LDL-2012) in Frankfurt/M., Germany, organized by the Open Linguistics Working Group (OWLG) of the Open Knowledge Foundation (OKFN). It assembles contributions of the workshop participants and, beyond this, it summarizes initial steps in the formation of a Linked Open Data cloud of linguistic resources, the Linguistic Linked Open Data cloud (LLOD)."

Effective management of dynamic records is a crucial component in supporting smooth operational processes, especially in document-intensive industries such as insurance. This study aims to design a metadata scheme for dynamic records lists at PT PertaLife Insurance to enhance the efficiency of information retrieval. Using a qualitative approach and case study method, data were collected through interviews, observations, and internal document analysis. The findings indicate that the existing record listing format does not fully comply with national archival standards due to the lack of metadata elements that accurately represent the context and content of records. Therefore, the researcher designed a metadata structure that includes key elements such as classification codes, record-creating units, time spans, content descriptions, media types, and usage status. The proposed scheme consists of three main formats: file list, file content list, and inactive records list. Implementation testing demonstrated a significant improvement in the speed and accuracy of record retrieval. This study concludes that applying a systematic metadata scheme offers a strategic solution for optimizing both manual and digital recordkeeping systems within the organization."

EDRMS (Electronic Document and Records Management System) is a document and record management system integrated from the stages of creation, use and maintenance electronically with a systematic workflow. Aplikasi Naskah Dinas University X was developed to support the management of electronic documents, especially the creation of official documents. However, there are still irrelevant and incomplete metadata descriptions such as classification codes, signatory identity numbers, and no categorization based on user accounts in the document creation feature. Therefore, standard functional requirements are needed to ensure that the management of the electronic document management system runs well. This study discusses the compliance of functional requirements in creating electronic documents in Aplikasi Naskah Dinas Universitas X based on ISO 16175-2:2011. The aim is to identify compliance with the applicable functional standards for creating electronic documents. This research is a case study research with a descriptive qualitative method. The study results show that most of the metadata functional requirements have been met, but there are still discrepancies in the metadata. There is no policy used in managing metadata as a whole, there are elements of the metadata creation date that do not match the signature, and the application system can only accommodate one user account for each user. This research becomes a recommendation, consideration and correction for managing metadata management in supporting the integrity of archives at University X."

"Cultural heritage professionals have high levels of training in metadata. However, the institutions in which they practice often depend on support staff, volunteers, and students in order to function. With limited time and funding for training in metadata creation for digital collections, there are often many questions about metadata without a reliable, direct source for answers. The Metadata Manual provides such a resource, answering basic metadata questions that may appear, and exploring metadata from a beginner’s perspective. This title covers metadata basics, XML basics, Dublin Core, VRA Core, and CDWA schemes and provides exercise in the creation of metadata. Finally, the book gives an overview of metadata, including mapping and sharing."
