"Pada tahun 2016 Best Media menerbitkan novel Dear Nathan dengan jargon ??dibaca jutaan kali di Wattpad ? diikuti novel-novel Wattpad lainnya di tengah krisis literasi Indonesia berdasarkan hasil survei The World ??s Most Literated Nations WLMN . Munculnya novel-novel Wattpad tersebut menjadi dasar pemilihan fokus tesis ini yaitu bagaimana penerbit memanfaatkan Wattpad melalui tahap seleksi dan transformasi novel digital ke cetak. Metode yang digunakan adalah netnografi, analisis tekstual, dan wawancara. Korpus tesis ini meliputi: lima novel Wattpad terbitan Best Media, yaitu: A: Aku, Benci, Cinta-Wulanfadi, Dear Nathan-Erisca Febriani, My High School Bride-Fallonyu, The Coldest Boyfriend-ItsFiyawn, dan Jatuh Hati-_rahmaa, lima novel Wattpad populer yang tidak diterbitkan Best Media, yakni: Vanilla-@srizqya, Maugy-@pandanello, Marriage With out Sex-@mslostinlove,My Wife is 16 Years Old-@inaka13, dan Bad Girl-@aulialvn, serta hasil wawancara dengan redaksi Best Media dan penulis Best Media. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa dalam proses seleksi dan transformasi novel, tidak hanya penerbit Best Media yang menjalankan peran sebagai cultural intermediary tetapi juga penulis dan pembaca sementara Wattpad berperan sebagai digital intermediary yang menghubungkan ketiga aktor cultural intermediary tersebut.

The success of Dear Nathan followed by other Wattpad novels amid the Indonesian literacy crisis based on the survey of The World 39 s Most Literated Nations WLMN . The emergence of Wattpad novels being focus of this thesis, looking how the publisher using Wattpad through the selection and transformation process. The methods of this research were netnography, textual analysis, and interview. The corpus of this thesis are Five Wattpad novels published by Best Media A Aku, Benci, Cinta Wulanfadi, Dear Nathan Erisca Febriani, My High School Bride Fallonyu, The Coldest Boyfriend ItsFiyawn, dan Jatuh Hati rahmaa, five popular Wattpad novels not published Best Media Vanilla srizqya, Maugy pandanello, Marriage With out Sex mslostinlove, My Wife is 16 Years Old inaka13, dan Bad Girl aulialvn, and interviews result with Best Media editor and Best Media authors. The result shown that in selection and transformation process, the role of cultural intermediary is not only the Best Media publishers but also the authors and the readers and Wattpad acts as a digital intermediary that connects the cultural intermediaries."

"Wattpad merupakan salah satu aplikasi atau platform digital yang populer bagi kalangan penulis dan pembaca yang memperbolehkan penggunanya untuk membaca cerita dan mempublikasikan cerita yang mereka tulis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana Wattpad mempengaruhi perubahan dan perkembangan minat membaca dan menulis penggunanya dari sebelum dan sesudah mereka menggunakan aplikasi Wattpad. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kualitatif deskriptif. Penelitian ini menggunakan teknik Snowball Sampling dalam pengambilan sampel. Metode pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan wawancara semi-terstruktur dengan enam informan terpilih dan ditambahkan juga lima studi pustaka sebagai pendukung pernyataan informan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bagaimana Wattpad merubah minat membaca dan menulis pengguna setelah menggunakan aplikasi selama beberapa tahun. Wattpad is one of the most popular Digital platforms for reader and writer communities that can be used for reading stories or publishing stories or other writings. This research aims to compare out how Wattpad changed and developed its users’ interests in reading and writing before and after they use the application. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative. This paper uses Snowball Sampling techniques in taking samples. The study employs data collection method by using semi-structured interviews with six chosen informants and five literature reviews to support the informants statements. The results of this research shows how Wattpad changes the users reading and writing interest after using the application for several years."

"Abstrak. Makalah ini membahas mengenai bagaimana proses komodifikasi karya sastra Wattpad dengan judul Nonversation. Penelitian ini menggunakan paradigma kritis, dengan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode penelitian studi kasus. Dilakukannya penelitian ini memiliki tujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana proses komodifikasi yang terjadi pada karya sastra Wattpad berjudul Nonversation dan kaitannya terhadap perubahan pada industri penerbitan buku. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, dengan menggunakan konsep komodifikasi milik Mosco, terdapat tiga bentuk komodifikasi yang terjadi: (1). Komodifikasi konten terjadi melalui proses penulisan yang dilakukan melalui unsur-unsur cerita untuk menarik pembaca; (2). Komodifiksi khalayak terjadi ketika pembaca tidak dapat melepaskan dirinya dan menjadikan novel sebagai bagian dari kesehariannya; (3) Komodifikasi pekerja dimana penulis mengapitalisasi kemampuannya untuk menciptakan karya sastra sebagai bentuk dari labour-power. Model Arena Produksi Kultural juga digunakan untuk mengkaji Wattpad sebagai agen yang mendominasi dalam industri penerbitan buku.

Abstract. This paper discusses the process of commodification of Wattpad story, Nonversation. This study uses a critical paradigm, with a qualitative approach and case study research methods. The purpose of this research is to find out how the commodification process that occurs in Wattpad's literary work and its relation to the changes in the book publishing industry. Based on the research results, using Mosco's concept of commodification, there are three forms of commodification that occurs: (1). The commodification of content occurs through the writing process which is carried out through story elements to attract readers; (2). The commodification of audiences occurs when the reader cannot let go of themself and makes the novel a part of his daily life; (3) The commodification of workers where the author capitalizes their own ability to create literary works as a form of labour-power. Bourdieu’s The Cultural Production Arena model is also used to examine Wattpad as a dominating agent in the book publishing industry."

"Penelitian ini membahas mengenai konstruksi maskulinitas para pembaca novel romansa dewasa muda Wattpad. Novel romansa dewasa muda yang diteliti ialah novel yang ditulis oleh penulis perempuan untuk menunjukkan wacana female-authored masculinities. Penelitian-penelitian sebelumnya yang juga membahas mengenai wacana maskulinitas di novel romansa hanya berfokus kepada representasi wacana maskulinitas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menunjukkan agensi para pembaca novel dalam memunculkan konsepsi maskulinitas setelah membaca novel romansa dewasa muda di Wattpad selama 3—5 tahun. Para pembaca yang dimaksud ialah pembaca perempuan yang berusia dewasa muda, yaitu 21 dan 22 tahun. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa wacana maskulinitas yang tergambar di novel romansa dewasa muda Wattpad merupakan wacana baru maskulinitas yang berbeda dengan maskulinitas hegemonik. Selain itu, penelitian juga menunjukkan adanya variasi konsepsi maskulinitas dari para pembaca. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa para pembaca novel romansa dewasa muda Wattpad ialah agen yang aktif dalam mengonstruksi maskulinitasnya.

This study discusses the masculinity construction of young adult romance novels Wattpad readers. The young adult romance novels studied was written by female writers to show the discourse of female-authored masculinities. Previous studies that also discussed the discourse of masculinity in romance novels only focused on the representation of masculinity discourse.

This study aims to show the novel readers' agency in bringing up the conception of masculinity after reading young adult romance novels in Wattpad for 3-5 years. The intended readers are young adult female readers, namely 21 and 22 years old.

The results of this study indicate that the discourse of masculinity depicted in the young adult romance novel in Wattpad is a new discourse of masculinity that is different from hegemonic masculinity. In addition, this study also shows the variations in the conception of masculinity of the readers. This shows that the readers of the young adult romance novel in Wattpad are active agents in constructing their masculinity."

"ABSTRAKPenelitian ini membahas aplikasi Wattpad, karateristik novel Dear Nathan sebagai sastra Wattpad, dan tanggapan pembaca Wattpad terhadap novel Dear Nathan. Urgensi penelitian ini karena Wattpad mutakhir untuk diperbincangkan dalam perkembangan sastra siber. Tujuan penelitian ini menjelaskan karateristik sastra Wattpad dan tanggapan pembaca Wattpad. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif analitik dengan teknik penelitian sumber pustaka. Dari penelitian ini diperoleh informasi mengenai ciri khas sastra populer dalam novel Dear Nathan. Selain itu, tanggapan pembaca yang terbagi atas tanggapan praterbit dan pascaterbit karya juga menunjukkan adanya pengaruh selera massa terhadap karya. Dengan demikian, novel Dear Nathan merupakan sastra populer ditinjau dari karakteristik karya dan tanggapan pembaca Wattpad.

ABSTRACTThis study discusses the Wattpad application, the characteristic of Dear Nathan as a Wattpad literature, and the responses of Wattpad towards Dear Nathan. The urgency of this research is Wattpad recently being discussed in the development of cyber literature. The purpose of this study explains the characteristics of Wattpad literature and Wattpad reader responses. The research method used is descriptive analysis with library source research techniques. This study obtains information about the characteristics of popular literature in the novel Dear Nathan.
