"In 19th century, the condition of subordinate women in America triggered them to fight for their equality. This movement has expanded to become an international movement along with the development of transportation and telecommunications in America-Europe. Starting from this, the Women International Non-Governmental Organization (WINGO) was formed as an association of the international women's movement. The International Council of Women (ICW) is the first WINGO in the world formed in 1888, Washington D.C. Throughout its history, ICW has worked for women`s equality in the international scope through League of Nations and the United Nations. One of them was in the making of the first women's international conference, which is International Women`s Year (IWY) Conference 1975 with `Equality, Development and Peace` as the theme of conference. Through a series of historical methods, this research aims to explain the progress of ICW in the terms of fighting for equality through the process of making the IWY agenda that was adopted in 1972 until the IWY Conference in 1975, also the impact of IWY Conference on the interests of ICW and international women's movement. There has been some research on the IWY Conference, but there is no research that has been made specifically discussing about the role of ICW in the conference. The results of this research indicate that ICW has an important role in shaping the equality agenda at the IWY Conference which was apparently supported by the Cold War political interests behind it.

"ABSTRAKSkripsi ini membahas Perjalanan dari Organisasi Perikatan Perkumpulan Perempuan Indonesia PPPI yang berkembang menjadi Kongres Wanita Indonesia Kowani 1928-1950. Perjuangan yang dilakukan Kowani berfokus pada meningkatkan peran wanita didalam masyarakat dan usahanya dalam menyatukan organisasi-organisasi wanita Indonesia dalam mencapai kemerdekaan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penulisan ini menggunakan metode sejarah yang terdiri dari heuristik, kritik, interpretasi dan historiografi. Untuk hasil yang dicapai dari tulisan ini menunjukan peran organsasi PPPI sebelum tahun 1945 adalah memperbaiki kedudukan kaumnya seperti Pemberantasan Buta Huruf, mengupayakan tercapainya Undang-undang tentang perkawinan, serta Hak pilih Wanita. Untuk tahun 1945 sampai tahun 1949, peran organisasi Kowani adalah mengisi Kemerdekaan Indonesia seperti menyatukan seluruh organisasi wanita Indonesia, membuka hubungan dengan organisasi wanita internasional, dan mengirimkan delegasi-delegasi wanita kedalam setiap pertemuan wanita Internasional. ABSTRACTThis thesis discusses the Journey of the Indonesian Women 39 s Society Engagement Organization PPPI which developed into the Indonesian Women 39 s Congress Kowani 1928 1950. Kowani 39 s struggle focuses on enhancing the role of women in society and its efforts in bringing together Indonesian women 39 s organizations in achieving independence. The method used in this paper uses historical methods consisting of heuristics, criticism, interpretation and historiography. For the results of this paper, the role of the PPPI organization prior to 1945 is to improve the status of its people, such as the Eradication of Illiteracy, to strive for the Law on Marriage, and Women 39 s Suffrage. From 1945 to 1949, the role of Kowani 39 s organization was to fill Indonesian Independence such as bringing together all Indonesian women 39 s organizations, opening relationships with international women 39 s organizations, and sending women 39 s delegations into every international women 39 s meetings.
