"In recent years, much attention has been focused on biodegradable polymers from renewable resources. Due to its availability and low cost, starch is a promising candidate among biopolymers for use in biodegradable packaging materials and for other purposes. Starch-Based Polymeric Materials and Nanocomposites: Chemistry, Processing, and Applications presents the latest developments in starch chemistry, rheology, starch derivatives, starch-based nanocomposites, and their applications.Topics discussed include:The chemistry, microstructure, processing, and enzymatic degradation of starchThe importance and role of starch as a gelling agentPlasticization and the role of plasticizersVarious rheological techniques applied to starch-related products and the characteristics of starch dispersionsPolymeric aspects of reactive extrusion (REX) and its use on starch and other biopolymersCyclodextrins (CDs) and their industrial applications, and CD-based supramole and polymersThe potential of starch in food packaging, edible packaging, feedstock for bioproducts, and industrial and consumer productsThe theoretical basis and derivation of the mathematical model for multicomponent systems and its solution algorithmThe book also explores recent progress in biodegradable starch-based hybrids and nanomaterials and the incorporation of nanoparticles in starches to enhance their mechanical and thermal properties. The book concludes by discussing the use of biopolymeric nanoparticles (BNPs) in drug delivery and life cycle assessment (LCA) of starch-based polymeric materials for packaging and allied applications. With contributions from leading experts in academia and industry, this volume demonstrates the versatility of starch and its potential in a variety of applications."

"Detailed descriptions on biological activities, tissue and/or subcellular distribution, molecular structure, gene organization, possible functions, clinical applications, lectin-ligand interactions and their intervention for therapeutic purposes are provided. The recently discovered C-type lectins as well as further novel super-families of this group of molecules are described in detail. Furthermore, the clinical significance of animal lectins in inflammatory diseases, defects of immune defense and autoimmunity are described and their application as drugs and therapeutic targets is discussed. "The author offers an extensive overview of the most practical and efficient modern techniques used in the design and implementation of secure computation and related protocols. After an introduction that sets secure computation in its larger context of other privacy-enhancing technologies such as secure channels and trusted computing, he covers the basics of practically efficient secure function evaluation, circuit optimizations and constructions, hardware-assisted garbled circuit protocols, and the modular design of efficient SFE protocols."

Waxy maize starch and modified starch is used for many typical traits one result the modification of corn starch which are compounds used as pharmaceutical products hydroxyethyl starch (HES), a synthetic colloid that formed modification polymer from amylopectin often used clinically to replacement volume in an action to defend or fixed a perfusion in patients who experience, trauma, shock and stress of surgery. These experience things have a purpose to obtain a value in infuse sample a and b using a spectrophotometry infrared, before doing a measurement, first of all we have to dried the sample and the temperature is about 80°C, then making tablets with a mixture of KBr, using a tool with pressure handpress 450 kgf / cm2 for two minutes. The formed tablets are made spectrum on the area around 1653 cm-1 and 1157 cm-1. Obtained from curve calibration 1653 cm-1 is y = - 0,11938 + 0,2674x with a correlation coefficient (r) = 0,98374, while the curve calibration 1157 cm -1 is y = 0,28314 + 0,0982x with a correlation coefficient (r) = 0,99609. Concentration measurement results obtained samples a and b are 99,6% ± 0,15, and 99,5 % ± 0,93 and samples b are 99,8 % ± 0,35 and 99 % ± 0,58."

"Capping agents such as starch can be used to protect semiconductor nanoparticles from aggregation and obtain uniform structures. Cadmium sulfide (CdS) nanoparticles with starch as a capping agent were prepared with an aqueous precipitation technique at different pH levels to study the optimum condition for producing a narrow distribution of nanoparticles. The morphology of the prepared nanoparticles was measured by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Grain sizes of the samples determined by X-ray Diffraction (XRD) with Scherer’s equation were relatively dependet on the pH applied in the synthesized process. Infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) indicated that the starch and the nanoparticles were bonded by R-N=C=S bonds, but bondinbg depended on the pH used. The band gap of the CdS nanoparticles measured by UV-Vis spectroscopy was 2.39 eV, which was lower than CdS in bulk phase because of distorted structures in obtained CdS nanoparticles."
