Smith, Charles Roach
"Charles Roach Smith (1806–90) had a prosperous career as a druggist. His shop was in the City of London, then undergoing major excavation and redevelopment, and he began to collect the artefacts being uncovered around him. With a widening interest in all aspects of the past, Smith began to publish notes on his collection as well as antiquarian observations. (His Illustrations of Roman London is also reissued in this series.) This three-volume work, published 1883–91, reviews his activities as an excavator, collector, and co-founder of the British Archaeological Association. Pen-portraits of fellow enthusiasts and descriptions of ancient buildings and ruins are interspersed with accounts of infighting in the Association, and biting criticism of local and national authorities who refused to take on responsibility for Britain's archaeological heritage. Volume 2 contains anecdotes including an archaeological excavation conducted by Darwin's mentor Henslow on a tumulus in his parish."

Since the 19th century, the Kamboja Cemetery Depok has been used as a public burial ground by Christian communities, both from Europa and all around Nusantara. Archaeological studies need to be carried out to see what forms of habitus and social class were in the very heterogeneous Depok society during the colonial period. Studies are done in stages, starting with data collection, data processing, analysis, and interpretation. The results explain that the Depok people's habitus is reflected in the architectural style of headstones which is very oriented towards European culture, especially the Dutch on the VOC era. The level of religious observance of the people of Depok as a Calvinist Protestant is also very strong, as can be seen from the religious attributes on the decorative headstones. Based on the habitus and variety of capital, the people of Depok are divided into three social groups, namely the dominant class, the middle class (petty bourgeoisie), and the lower class (workers)."

Petrie, W.M. Flinders
"A pioneering Egyptologist, Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie (1853–1942) excavated over fifty sites and trained a generation of archaeologists. In this short but classic work of 1904, he explains his vision for the young science of archaeology. Petrie outlines his processes and goals for an excavation, offering advice on how to manage workers drawn from the local population as well as guidance on creating a thorough record of a dig, the importance of which had not been fully appreciated by many contemporary archaeologists. His methods were highly influential in their more systematic and scientific approach to archaeology at a time when many of its practitioners were more focused on acquiring attractive artefacts than advancing knowledge. The text is accompanied by 66 illustrations. Petrie wrote prolifically throughout his long career, and a great many of his other publications - for both specialists and non-specialists - are also reissued in this series."
