"This paper reports on the results of a study conducted with a view to finding out the pragmatic forces behind the choice of a language or a language variety over another, and, additionally. to getting insights into factors that influence code choice. The underlying assumption is that a language or a language var ieey can be seen as a metaphor, which conveys a certain pragmatic meaning, depending on who speaks to whom, where, when, about what, how and why.
Data for the study was drawn from tape recordings of 1udruk. an east Javanese folk theater, which differs from many other forms of drama in that dialogs are not set and memorized and that therefore players have to invent, make up or "recite" their lines without preparation. The rationale for choosing ludruk dialogs as the topic of the study is that, being impromptu, they very much resemble natural, everyday conversations and thus their rules of speaking can be expected to very much reflect those in natural, everyday discourse, if not exactly the same.
While Indonesian, the national language of Indonesia. is also used in ludruk performances -- a recent phenomenon and especially in television performances for audience nationwide - the traditional language of ludruk is Javanese. specifically the eastern dialect of this language. Madurese. the language of the ethnic group on the island of Madura and much or the eastern part of last Java Province. is sometimes user) in a performance, but?"

Data kata majemuk kemudian dikategorikan berdasarkan komponen pembentuknya menurut Poedjosoedarmo (1984).

This study describes the process of forming compound words in Javanese. This study aims to analyze compound words based on their constituent components. Compound words are independent words that consist of two or more elements that have different forms. Therefore, there are phrases and compound words that are difficult to distinguish. The data source used in this study is the novel Pinatri Ing Teleng Ati by Tiwiek SA (2015). This study used the descriptive qualitative method. Compound words are classified into seven groups (Sudaryanto, 1991). This research focuses on presenting a new meaning that is mixed with the meaning of the basic form. Data in the form of compound words that have mixed meanings in the basic form are found more commonly in the novel than in other compound words. Compound word data is then categorized based on its constituent components according to Poedjosoedarmo (1984). After dividing into word subclasses, compound words are analyzed based on the relationship between the components forming compound words with phrases and clauses. Furthermore, compound words are analyzed for differences in the word class order of the forming components and their lexical meanings with phrases and clauses according to Wedhawati (2006). The findings from this study are that compound words have new meanings, and these new meanings still show a connection with the meanings of their constituent components. Unlike the case with phrases and clauses, their formation results are based on the lexical meaning of the constituent components. In addition, verb-noun patterns were found in compound words that differed from phrases and clauses. Phrases and clauses generally form noun-verb patterns. Finally, compound words with adjective-verb patterns differ from the rules of Javanese phrases and clauses. These differences make compound words have different characteristics from phrases and clauses."
