"This paper discusses how the concept of ?bilingualism? canbe used to reflect changes within Bruneian society since the1940?s. It argues that within the context of a linguisticallydiverse population, the various indigenous groups of Bruneiused to speak their own traditional languages, but eventuallylearned to speak the language of the politically dominantMalays. The Malay language became a necessary additionallanguage, hence leading to a population which could speaktheir own languages, alongside the Malay language. But therise of schools teaching in English in the 1970?s began tosow seeds of a different kind of bilingualism, encouraged bylanguage shift processes among ethnic minority groups."

Namun, hal ini juga sangat tergantung dengan kemampuan bahasa asing lainnya yang dimiliki ibunya. Pada penelitian ini akan dibahas kemampuan bahasa seorang pria yang dilahirkan melalui perkawinan campur. Kemampuan bahasa ini akan diteliti dengan pendekatan semantik pragmatik. Cakupan penelitian ini hanya akan meliputi beberapa tema umum untuk mengetahui kemampuan kedwibahasaan.

People who have abilty to speak more than one language is certainly a pride. Moreover if the ability they got from parents who come from different countries, so it should be easier to learn it. The ability to speak more than one language due to differences in the nation from parents is so interesting to be discussed. Generally a child will get mother tounge from the country where the child’s mother comes from. However it also depends on the mother’s another language ability. In this reasearch will be discussed the language ability of a man who was born through mixed marriage. This language ability will use semantic pragmatic approach. The scope of this research will only enclose a general themes to find out the bilingualism ability."
