"Sutradara sekaligus penulis naskah kontroversial, Kim Ki Duk, memiliki ciri khasnya tersendiri dalam mengeksekusi ide-idenya. Dalam menghasilkan karya-karyanya, Kim Ki Duk lebih sering bermain dengan tema fenomena sosial dan tidak jarang menyisipkan kritik sosial yang tersirat di dalam karyanya. Lewat salah satu film terbaiknya, Pieta (2012), Kim Ki Duk menggambarkan fenomena sosial yang terjadi pada kaum proletariat di Korea Selatan akibat sistem kapitalisme. Melalui penelitian ini, penulis menjabarkan bentuk fenomena sosial yang terjadi pada kaum proletariat dalam film Pieta melalui pendekatan Sosiologi Sastra Marxis. Dalam melakukan penelitian, penulis menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif dengan cara mengambil beberapa sampel adegan yang berkorelasi dengan topik yang diangkat untuk dianalisis lebih lanjut. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, penulis menemukan bahwa film Pieta menampilkan dua fenomena yang terjadi pada masyarakat kaum proletariat, yaitu fenomena keterasingan pekerja dan fenomena kkangpae. Berdasarkan hasil ini pula, penulis menyimpulkan bahwa kedua fenomena tersebut merupakan reaksi berantai (domino effect) yang terjadi akibat adanya sistem kapitalisme secara global.

Controversial director and scriptwriter, Kim Ki Duk, has his own uniqueness in executing his ideas. In producing his works, Kim Ki Duk often plays with the theme of social phenomena and inserts social criticism that is implied in his works. Through one of his best films, Pieta (2012), Kim Ki Duk portrays the social phenomena that occur in South Korea’s proletariat society due to the capitalist system. Through this research, the author describes the forms of social phenomena that occur in the proletariat in Pieta through the Sociology of Marxist Literature approach. In conducting the research, the author uses a descriptive qualitative method by taking several samples of correlated scenes to the topic for further analysis. Based on the research’s results, the author found that there are two phenomena that occur in the proletarian society, these are Work Alienation phenomenon and Kkangpae phenomenon. Furthermore, the author concludes that these two phenomena are a domino effect that is caused by the global capitalism system."

"Alienasi adalah suatu keadaan ketika seseorang merasa terisolasi dari lingkungan sekitarnya, yang dapat berupa komunitas, hubungan terdekat, lembaga keagamaan, hingga segala sesuatu yang berhubungan dengannya. Dalam animasi, alienasi ditampilkan dalam salah satu anime Jepang dengan judul Natsume Yuujinchou karya Midorikawa Yuki. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis wujud alienasi yang digambarkan pada tokoh utama dari anime Natsume Yuujinchou. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah analisis teks dengan sinematografi Bordwell dan Thompson (2008) bersama dengan teori alienasi dari McClinton-Temple (2011). Melalui penelitian ini, ditemukan sebelas buah data yang membuktikan bahwa Natsume terasingkan dari komunitas dan hubungan terdekat yang dia miliki. Hasil temuan lain juga menunjukkan bahwa Natsume sebagai tokoh utama juga turut mengalienasi dirinya sendiri akibat sifat pasifnya dalam menghadapi alienasi yang dilakukan oleh orang di sekitar terhadap dirinya.

Alienation is a state when a person feels isolated from their surroundings, which can be in the form of communities, close relationships, religious institutions, and everything related to them. In animation, alienation is shown in one of the Japanese anime titled Natsume Yuujinchou by Midorikawa Yuki. This research aims to analyze the form of alienation depicted in the main character of the anime Natsume Yuujinchou. The research method used is text analysis with Bordwell and Thompson's cinematography (2008) along with McClinton-Temple's theory of alienation (2011). Through this research, eleven pieces of data were found to prove that Natsume is alienated from his community and closest relationships. Other findings also show that Natsume as the main character also alienates himself due to his passivity in the face of alienation by the people around him."

"Film-film Hollywood telah seringkali menggambarkan etnis non-Putih dengan stereotip rasial yang cenderung menyesatkan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap pesan di balik penggambaran bangsa Yunani dan Persia dalam film aksi Hollywood 300: Rise of an Empire. Walaupun film garapan sutradara Noam Murro ini sukses masuk ke daftar film berpendapatan terbesar sepanjang 2014, belum ada yang mengkaji film tersebut dari sudut pandang Orientalisme pada saat karya tulis ilmiah ini disusun. Penulis menggunakan metode analisis karakter dan semiotik audiovisual pada enam adegan yang menampilkan interaksi antara karakter-karakter Yunani dan Persia. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa para tokoh Persia direpresentasikan dengan karakteristik negatif baik dari segi fisik maupun non-fisik. Semua karakter Persia dalam film ini digambarkan berpenampilan seperti penduduk Timur Tengah, bersifat lemah, bodoh, kejam, dan tamak. Ini sangatlah bertentangan dengan pencitraan bangsa Yunani yang semua ditampilkan berkulit putih, berpostur ideal, bersifat berani, loyal,cerdas dan menjunjung nilai-nilai kebebasan. Konten film 300: Rise of an Empire cenderung melebih-lebihkan dan melencengkan perbedaan antara bangsa Yunani (Barat) dan Persia (Timur). Oleh karena itu, dapat disimpulkan bahwa film ini mencerminkan paham Orientalisme.

Hollywood movies have often portrayed non-White ethnicities with misleading racial stereotypes.The goal of this study is to find the underlying message behind the portrayal of Greeks and Persians in the Hollywood action movie 300: Rise of an Empire. Directed by a top Hollywood director Noam Murro, the movie has gained huge profit worldwide and been listed as one of the most successful movies throughout 2014. There has been no Orientalist study on this movie yet when this paper was written.This study examines six selected scenes, where interactions between the Greeks and the Persians take place, using character and audiovisual semiotic analyses.

The result shows that the Persians in the movie are represented as weak, backwards, cruel, and greedy Arabs.The White Greeks, on the other side of the spectrum, are attractive, brave, loyal, intelligent and freedom-loving. 300: Rise of an Empire exaggerates and distorts the differences between the Greeks (West) and the Persians (East), placing the two nations at the furthest ends of the opposite spectrum. Therefore, it can be concluded that the movie reflects Orientalist notions."

"ABSTRAKMedia arus utama dan industri perfilman mulai menampilkan sisi lain dari Wall Street sejak terjadinya krisis finansial di tahun 2008. Margin Call 2011 adalah salah satu dari beberapa film yang menggambarkan situasi para pekerja Wall Street ketika mereka harus menghadapi krisis finansial pada saat itu. Alur cerita film ini memiliki beberapa kesamaan dengan kejadian bangkrutnya perusahaan Lehman Brothers di dunia nyata yang dimana menceritakan tentang kondisi para pekerja dalam sebuah firma yang berusaha menyelamatkan diri mereka dari kebangkrutan perusahaan ketika terjadinya krisis finansial. Film ini dipilih menjadi objek analisis dengan pertimbangan bahwa film ini menyiratkan banyak ujaran persuasive. Merujuk pada kategorisasi teknik persuasi oleh Barbara Johnstone 1989 , artikel ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis berbagai macam teknik persuasi yang digunakan oleh para pekerja Wall Street melalui analisis percakapan pada dialog formal dan informal antar karakter dalam film. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa baik konteks percakapan formal maupun informal memiliki preferensi teknik persuasinya masing-masing. Sebagai kesimpulan, analisis ini menunjukan bahwa narasi dalam film ini dapat ditelaah lebih jauh lagi dengan menggunakan pendekatan analisis tekstual.

ABSTRACTMainstream media and film industry have started to explore the unrevealed side of Wall Street after the 2008 financial crisis erupted. Margin Call 2011 is one of the films that portrayed the situation of Wall Street workers when they have to deal with the financial crisis. The movie plot has similarities with real-life event of Lehman Brother bankruptcy in which it portrays the condition of the workers within a firm that should save themselves from a bankruptcy during the financial crisis. The movie is chosen to be the source of analysis because of the consideration that the film contains many persuasion speeches. By considering Barbara Johnstone 39;s 1989 categorization of persuasion techniques, this article aims to examine various persuasion techniques used by the Wall Street worker through conversational analysis on the dialogues of the characters within the film in both formal and informal contexts. The findings of this analysis show that both formal and informal occasion speech have their own most preferable technique of persuasion. To sum up, this analysis shows that the narrative within this film can be examined broader by doing textual analysis approach."

"Di dalam ilmu linguistik, teknik persuasi adalah satu dari beberapa kemampuan berkomunikasi. Saat ini sudah banyak penelitian yang telah meneliti tentang teknik persuasi. Dalam meneliti teknik persuasi, penelitian-penelitian tersebut menggunakan berbagai hal sebagai media untuk meneliti seperti pidato, film, dan percakapan. Artikel ini menggunakan film Fruitvale Station (2013) sebagai korpus karena karakter utamanya, Oscar Grant III, menggunakan banyak teknik persuasi saat berkomunikasi di dalam film tersebut. Artikel ini menganalisis teknik persuasi yang Oscar gunakan di setiap percakapannya dengan beberapa lawan bicara dari dua ras yang berbeda menggunakan pengkategorian teknik persuasi milik Barbara Johnstone (1989). Dari analisis yang dibuat, ditemukan jika ras dari lawan bicara Oscar tidak mempengaruhi pilihan Oscar dalam menggunakan teknik persuasi yang berbeda. Namun, Oscar memiliki pertimbangan lain dalam menggunakan teknik-teknik persuasi yang berbeda, yaitu situasi dari percakapan yang dia hadapi. Dari penemuan-penemuan tersebut, dapat disimpulkan jika di setiap situasi yang berbeda terdapat satu teknik yang cenderung akan digunakan.

Persuasion is one of several useful communication skills in linguistics. There are many studies that have researched about the persuasive strategy. In researching the persuasive strategy, the studies use many things as the means to research such as speeches, films, and conversations. This article uses a film Fruitvale Station (2013) as the corpus because the main character, Oscar Grant III, uses many persuasive strategies in his conversations in the film. This article analyzes persuasive strategy that Oscar uses through several conversations between him and several interlocutors from two different races in the film by using Barbara Johnstone`s (1989) categorization of persuasion technique. From the analysis, it is found that the race of interlocutors does not affect the preferences of Oscar`s persuasive strategy. However, there is another consideration of his preferences which is the situation of the conversation. From those findings, it is concluded that each situation has its preferable strategy to be used."

"Stereotip menjadi isu yang akhir-akhir ini kerap diangkat dalam sebuah film. Dalam masyarakat yang semakin multikultural, stereotip seringkali menjadi salah satu penghambat berjalannya sebuah integrasi sosial. Di dalam artikel ini akan dipaparkan mengenai bagaimana berjalannya sebuah proses integrasi yang sempat terhambat oleh karena adanya stereotip antara warga Prancis bagian utara dan bagian selatan. Stereotip dan integrasi sosial akan dipaparkan melalui analisis aspek naratif yang mencakup penokohan, alur, dan latar, serta aspek sinematografis yang mencakup aspek visual dan sonor. Melalui analisis kedua aspek tersebut terlihat bahwa proses integrasi sempat terhambat karena adanya stereotip-stereotip negatif. Namun pada akhirnya proses integrasi dapat berjalan dengan baik karena adanya sikap saling bertoleransi dan kemauan untuk menerima kebudayaan baru dari kedua belah pihak yang saling berintegrasi untuk membongkar stereotip negatif yang selama ini mereka pahami.

Recently, the stereotype issue becomes oftenly raised in a film. In a multicultural society, the issue of stereotype itself is identified as one of the inhibiting factors of a social integration. In this article will be presented on how the integration process that was inhibited by the existence of the stereotype between southern french and northen french people. Stereotype and social integration will be explained through the analysis of narrative aspects, including characterization, plot, and setting, as well as aspects of the cinematographic that includes visual effects and resonant. Through the analysis of these two aspects will be seen that the integration process was hampered because of the negatives stereotypes, but in the end the process of integration can run well because of the mutual tolerance and the willingness to accept the new culture of both parties that integrate with each other to deconstruct the negative stereotypes that have been believed by both sides."

"Film animasi Prancis Le Tableau (2011) karya Jean-François Laguionie mengisahkan kehidupan dalam sebuah lukisan yang belum diselesaikan oleh pelukisnya. Terdapat pengelompokkan tokoh-tokoh dalam lukisan yang didasarkan oleh progres pelukisan. Artikel ini mendalami bagaimana pengelompokkan sosial dalam film menimbulkan konflik ketidaksetaraan dan mendorong gerakan penghapusan kelas sosial. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menerapkan perspektif kritik Marxis sebagai kerangka teoretis dalam menginterpretasikan konflik ketidaksetaraan dan konsep penghapusan kelas sosial dalam narasi visual film animasi Le Tableau serta mengkritisinya dengan realitas kehidupan sosial. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif. Data yang digunakan berupa unsur naratif, efek visual pada tokoh dan latar serta kutipan langsung dari tokoh. Analisis aspek naratif ditunjang dengan konsep teori A.J. Greimas dalam bentuk skema aktan dan struktur fungsional, kemudian pemaknaan simbol dari pengembangan animasi didukung teori film animasi dari Boggs dan Petrie. Hasil analisis menunjukkan konsep Marxisme terkait penghapusan kelas sosial yang tercermin dalam film sebagai pertentangan struktur kelas sosial menjadi sebuah wacana utopis untuk diimplementasikan dalam kehidupan.

The French animated film Le Tableau (2011) by Jean-François Laguionie portrays life within an unfinished painting by its painter. The characters in the painting are grouped based on the progress of the painter's work. This article delves into how social categorization in the film gives rise to conflicts of inequality and propels a movement toward the dismissal of social class. The research aims to apply a Marxist critical perspective as a theoretical framework in interpreting the inequality conflicts and the concept of dismissal of social class in the visual narrative of the animated film Le Tableau, and to critically analyze it concerning the reality of social life. The research methodology used is qualitative descriptive. The data utilized includes narrative elements, visual effects on characters and settings, as well as direct quotes from characters. Narrative aspect analysis is supported by A.J. Greimas' theory in the form of actant schemes and functional structures, with symbol interpretation from animation development supported by animation film theories from Boggs and Petrie. The analysis results reveal Marxist concepts related to the dismissal of social class reflected in the film as a resistance to social class structures, becoming a utopian discourse to be implemented in real life."

"The Little Prince 2005 , film animasi anak yang diadaptasi dari novel Perancis dengan judul yang sama yang ditulis oleh Antoine de Saint-Exup ry, menceritakan tentang hubungan Little Girl dengan ibu tunggalnya, Mother, dan tetangganya yang bijaksana, Aviator. Film ini dapat dijadikan korpus analisis untuk mengeksplor stereotip gender dalam studi gender, khususnya dalam stereotip terhadap ibu dalam pandangan patriarki. Walaupun beberapa studi tentang pencarian jati diri dan identitas dalam novel dan ulasan-ulasan dalam film adaptasinya sudah dibuat, studi terhadap isu gender belum pernah dilakukan. The Little Prince 2015 , a children animated film adapted from the French novel with the same name written by Antoine de Saint-Exup ry, talks about the Little Girl rsquo;s relationship with her single mother, the Mother, and her wise neighbor, the Aviator. This film could be taken as a corpus of analysis to explore gender stereotype in gender studies, specifically on stereotypes towards motherhood in patriarchal view. While several studies on identity and self-discovery on the novel and film reviews on the film adaptation have been conducted, studies on gender issues have not been found. By using De Beauvoir rsquo;s idea of motherhood in patriarchy and Green rsquo;s general stereotypes toward the mother, this paper intends to discover how characterization of the Mother follows the gender stereotype of motherhood in patriarchy from the film adaptation. "

Meskipun film ini memiliki pemain dan karakter dari latar belakang ras yang beragam, stereotip tersembunyi dan distribusi kekuasaan yang tidak merata dapat ditemui di film ini. Melalui konsep stereotip dan relasi kuasa, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis stereotip rasial tersembunyi dan relasi kuasa yang tidak setara dengan melihat adegan dan dialog film.

ABSTRACTOkja 2017 is a science fiction film produced by Netflix and directed by a Korean director, Bong Joonho. It tells the journey of a young Korean girl rescuing her artificial pet pig from its creator, Mirando Corp. The movie casts people from various racial backgrounds as the characters mdash both white people and people of color. Despite casting people and characters from different racial backgrounds, covert stereotypes and inequitable power distribution exist throughout the movie. Through the concept of stereotyping and power relation, this paper aims to analyze the hidden racial stereotypes and unequal power distribution within the film by looking at the scenes and the dialogues."

"ABSTRAKWa Halla rsquo; La Wayn? merupakan sebuah film yang berkisah tentang kehidupan sebuah desa yang terisolir. Desa tersebut dihuni oleh dua kelompok agama, yaitu Muslim dan Kristen. Kaum perempuan di dalamnya berusaha untuk melindungi desa dari timbulnya peperangan antaragama yang terjadi di luar desa. Film ini menarik untuk diteliti karena adanya karakter perempuan yang lebih dominan dalam menyelesaikan konflik. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menjawab dan menjelaskan seperti apa karakter perempuan dinarasikan dalam film, serta mengetahui bagaimana narasi cerita yang dibangun. Metodologi yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Peneliti akan menganalisis struktur narasi, cerita, alur, sudut pandang serta fungsi dan karakter pada film yang disutradarai oleh Nadine Labaki ini. Dari hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa representasi perempuan yang ditampilkan pada film ini tidak meninggalkan keseluruhan stereotipe perempuan pada umumnya. Di sisi lain, perempuan mampu melakukan sesuatu yang lebih besar daripada stereotipe pada umumnya.

ABSTRACTWa Halla rsquo La Wayn is a movie that tells about the life of an isolated vilage. The village is inhabited by two religious groups, they are Muslim and Christian groups. The women in it are trying to protect the village from the incident of interfaith warfare that happened outside the village. This film is interesting to be researched because the female characters in it are more dominant to solve the conflict. The purpose of this research is to answer and explain what kind of female characters narrated in the film, also to know how narrative story is built. The methodology used in this research is descriptive qualitative. Researcher will analyze the structure of narrative, story, plot, point of view, also the functions and characters in the film which was directed by Nadine Labaki. The results of the research can be concluded that the female representation shown in this film does not leave the whole stereotype of women in general. On the other side, the women able to do something bigger than the stereotype in general."
