Abstrak :
Penelitian ini adalah studi pertama yang menjelaskan dampak aktivitas sekuritisasi pinjaman Usaha Kecil dan Menengah (UKM) terhadap stabilitas bank. Penelitian ini turut melihat peran yang dimainkan oleh likuiditas dan persyaratan modal sebagai moderator. Peneliti menggunakan novel hand-collected dataset pada tingkat bank di Amerika Serikat dan beberapa negara Eropa dalam periode antara tahun 2003 dan 2022. Kumpulan data akhir terdiri atas 1.157 pengamatan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kegiatan sekuritisasi pinjaman UKM berpengaruh negatif dan signifikan terhadap stabilitas bank. Likuiditas dan persyaratan modal sebagai moderator memperlemah pengaruh tersebut. Sebagai bagian dari robustness checks, penelitian ini mempertimbangkan kondisi krisis keuangan global dan Covid-19. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 2013-2019 adalah satu-satunya periode yang memungkinkan aktivitas sekuritisasi pinjaman UKM memiliki dampak negatif dan signifikan terhadap stabilitas bank. Hasil ini turut menunjukkan penerapan atas kebijakan transparansi yang efektif. Hasil penelitian tetap sesuai setelah peneliti menjalankan berbagai robustness checks dengan langkah-langkah pengujian dan analisis alternatif. ......This study shed light on the impact of Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Asset-Backed Security (ABS) on bank stability. Using bank-level data, this study also analyzes the moderating roles of liquidity and regulatory capital. To address the relevant issues, this study employs a novel hand-collected dataset of banks in the U.S. and European countries covering the period between 2003 and 2022. The final dataset comprises 1,157 observations. The results show that the SME ABS activity has a negative and significant impact on bank stability. The results also show liquidity and regulatory capital weaken the impact of SME ABS activity on bank stability. As a robustness check, this study also exploits the unique features of the SME ABS during the global financial crisis and Covid-19 crisis to study how these crises impact bank stability. The results indicate 2013-2019 is the only period that allowed the SME ABS activity to have a significant negative impact on bank stability. Hence, it explains the effective implementation of transparency policy. The results are robust to alternative measures of SME ABS and bank stability analysis, controlling for bank fixed effects, among several other robustness tests.
