Abstrak :
Increasingly, cruise operators are utilising information and communication technologies (ICTs) to improve service-effectiveness and process efficiency, both on- and off-board. Therefore, it is worth initiating a discussion on the potential and challenges ICTs entail for both cruise operators' back-offices and for cruisers' consumption experiences. This book documents the proceedings of the 1st e-Cruising Conference (Bremerhaven, Germany), which was aimed at discussing the possibilities and applicability of ICTs and mobile services in various aspects of cruise operations. Following a rigorous double-blind review, the best papers were chosen to be incorporated in this volume.

The book introduces a tailorable method for the internationalization of services. Each component of the method addresses a typical challenge of the international implementation of services, such as the design and modularization of services for international markets, the choice of locations for service operations, and the transfer of services to new locations. Case studies in IT services, facility management services, and information services illustrate the practical application of the method. In-depth chapters discuss theoretical foundations of the method and insights of related research fields.

Intangible assets such as patents have become important competitive factors and key elements in the value structure of technology-intensive companies. While patents represent the technological capital to a large extent, they are not adequately represented in the field of corporate financing. Based on expert interviews and a large-scale survey, Dominic de Vries provides one of the first in-depth empirical studies into how patents contribute to companies’ access to external financial sources. He identifies and analyses the actual extent and influence factors of financial patent utilization across company size clusters and patent-intensive industry sectors in Germany.

Remote services represent a young, but already important and fast growing form of technology-mediated services,. Stefanie Paluch employs multiple qualitative methods to explore the perception of remote services and its impact on customer-provider relationships in USA, Germany and Sweden. She develops a comprehensive model about customers’ holistic remote service experience and derives theoretical propositions that reflect main influence factors. Based on the empirical data, she generates managerial implications for remote service providers on how to increase the technology adoption and reinforce the relationships with their customers in high-technology environments.

Abstrak :
This is not a traditional textbook or collection of case studies, but is intended to demonstrate the complex and manifold questions of retail management in the form of 18 lessons that provide a thematic overview of key issues and illustrate them with the help of comprehensive case studies. In the second edition, all chapters were revised and updated. Three new chapters were added to treat topics like online-retailing and multi-channel-strategies as well as the so called verticals in specific chapters. All case studies were replaced by new ones to reflect the most recent developments. Eighteen well-known retail companies from different countries, like Best Buy, IKEA,TK Maxx, Tesco and Decathlon, are now used to illustrate particular aspects of retail management.

Business relationships between customer firms and their logistics service providers represent an increasingly important element of today’s supply chains and thus, the success of such logistics outsourcing relationships has crucial relevance for the competitiveness of a supply chain. With his three papers on success factors in logistics outsourcing, Alexander de Grahl provides relevant insights regarding this important research question.
