"Objective: Garcinia xanthochymus extract has been reported to have several pharmacological properties. This study was conducted to evaluate cytotoxic and anti-inflammatory activities of G. xanthochymus extracts on cell lines. Methods: The roots and stem barks of plant were extracted using maceration method with n-hexane, dichloromethane and methanol, successively. Cytotoxic activity of the extracts was tested against MCF-7 breast adenocarcinoma using MTT assay. Anti-inflammatory study was evaluated using RAW 264.7 mouse macrophage cells. The nitric oxide production in LPS-stimulated cells was measured using Griess reagent. Results: The results of cytotoxic and anti- inflammatory study showed that dichloromethane and n-hexane extracts of root and stem bark exhibited cytotoxic activity in dose-dependent manner. Meanwhile, for anti-inflammatory study, all root extracts together with stem bark dichloromethane and n-hexane extracts reduce NO production in LPS-stimulated cells in dose dependent manner. Conclusions: This finding indicated that G. xanthochymus extracts might become interesting candidate for treatment of cancer and inflammation.;"

"Objective: The aim of this research was to determine the prevalence, distribution and association of developmental alteration in tooth number with gender, location, and presence of delayed eruption of tooth among children who attended to Student?s polyclinic of IIUM Kuantan, Malaysia. Methods: A cross sectional study on total 727 Orthopanthomograms (OPGs) of 3-17 years old children from April 2009 to July 2012. OPGs with presence of alteration number were scrutinized to find out the prevalence, distribution and association. The data was analyzed comparing gender, location and presence of delayed eruption and tested using Chi-square test. Results: Out of 727 OPGs, 71 OPGs showed developmental alteration in tooth number. The prevalence was 98/1000 OPGs within 3 years. Among those 71 OPGs, the gender differences were: males (49.3%) and females (50.7%). Locations were found in maxilla (45.1%), mandible (40.8%) and both (14.0%). The finding of delayed eruption was (7.0%). There were significant differences between alteration in tooth number with location as (p < 0.05) while there were no significant differences with gender and delayed eruption as (p > 0.05). Conclusions: This study showed that hyperdontia was considerably lower than hypodontia. There was association between alteration in tooth number with location, but no association with gender and delayed eruption.;"

"While religiosity as a field of inquiry has been gaining research interest in recent years, a central issue about its conceptualisation, measurement, and relationships with work outcomes remains unresolved. The aims of this paper are: (1) to introduce a new scale designed to measure religiosity among Muslims, based on an Islamic perspective that centres on the bodily action or human activity (islam), the mind or understanding of God (iman), and the spirit or actualisation of virtue and goodness (ihsan); and (2) to demonstrate how religiosity relates to various work outcomes. We followed a rigorous multi-steps scale development procedure using four empirical studies involving 703 participants. The final scale yielded one factor with 10 underlying items. Our results showed that religiosity was positively correlated with job satisfaction, positive work behaviour, workplace integrity, and organisational commitment, but negatively correlated with antagonistic work behaviour. This new scale also showed incremental validity over an existing Muslim attitude scale in predicting organisational commitment and integrity. Overall, this new scale demonstrates good psychometric properties and is a promising tool for the measurement of religiosity among Muslims in organisational settings.

"Stuttered speech is a dysfluency rich speech, more prevalent in males than females. It has been associated with insufficient air pressure or poor articulation, even though the root causes are more complex. The primary features include prolonged speech and repetitive speech, while some of its secondary features include, anxiety, fear, and shame. This study used LPC analysis and synthesis algorithms to reconstruct the stuttered speech. The results were evaluated using cepstral distance, Itakura-Saito distance, mean square error, and likelihood ratio. These measures implied perfect speech reconstruction quality. ASR was used for further testing, and the results showed that all the reconstru-cted speech samples were perfectly recognized while only three samples of the original speech were perfectly recognized.

"The objective of the study is threefold. Firstly, the study explores the learning
approaches adopted by students in completing their Business Finance. Secondly,
it examines the impact that learning approaches has on the students academic
peiformance. Finally, the study considers gender differences in the learning
approaches adopted by students and in the relationship between learning
approaches and academic peiformance. The Approaches and Study Skills Inventory
for Students (ASSIST) was used to assess the approaches to learning adopted by
students whilst the students final examination result was considered in examining
the peiformance of the students. The results indicate that majority of the accounting
students, both male and female groups prefer to use the deep approach in studying
Business Finance. The findings also reveal that there were significant relationships
between learning approaches and academic peiformance with positive directioil
appears for deep and strategic approaches whilst negative relationship reveals for
suiface approach."

"This study was conducted primarily to measure the relationship between career program, career development and
personal outcomes using self-administered questionnaires gathered from employees who have worked at a Sabah local
government in Borneo. The outcomes of testing research hypothesis using a stepwise regression analysis showed two
important findings: firstly, relationship between career program (i.e., planning and management) and career
development positively and significantly correlated with job satisfaction. Secondly, relationship between career
program (i.e., planning and management) and career development positively and significantly correlated with career
commitment. Statistically, the result demonstrates that career development does act as an important mediating variable
in the relationship between career program and personal outcomes in the career program model of the studied
organization. The paper provides discussion, implications and conclusion.

"Background: The purpose of this study was to provide a reference of chronic diabetes complications by investigating
the prolonged hyperglycemia effects on hematological, biochemical and histopathological changes (liver, kidney,
spleen, cardiac muscle, adrenal gland, and endocrine pancreas) in diabetic rats induced by streptozotocin. Methods:
Ten adult female Sprague-Dawley of uniform age were divided into two Groups. Group 1 was made diabetic by single
intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin (60 mg/kg/bw) whereas Group 2 served as control. After six months, the rats
were anesthetized using pentobarbital. Cardiac puncture was performed to get 3 ml of the blood sample; following 12
hours of an overnight fast. Serum chemistry test and complete blood analysis for lipid profile and blood glucose test;
liver and renal functions were performed. Tissue specimens of liver, kidney, spleen, cardiac muscle, adrenal gland, and
endocrine pancreas were fixed in 10% formal saline and processed for histological study. Results: There were severe
histopathological changes in the affected organs; and the presence of a significant abnormality of lipid profile, liver, and
renal functions. Conclusions: The presence of histopathological changes with abnormal biochemical changes is related
to the chronic absence of insulin production in the destroyed β –cells which reflect the diabetic complications in a
human being."
