Abstrak :
Jepang, telah mengalami banyak perkembangan seusai Perang Dingin hingga menjadi
salah satu militer tercanggih di Asia Timur. Pada 2006, Jepang dan sekutunya yaitu
Amerika Serikat menandatangani perjanjian relokasi dari Okinawa, dimana 59%
biaya relokasi ditanggung oleh Jepang. Intensi mempertahankan kehadiran Amerika
strategis Asia Timur.
Abstract
Japan has experienced many changes since the Cold War until it became one of the
most sophisticated military in East Asia. In 2006, Japan and U.S. signed a relocation
agreement from Okinawa, in which Japan shared 59% of the cost. This intention of
keeping U.S. presence needs to be justified from Japanese perspective of its
surroundings. This research will utilize Stephen Walt?s concept of balancing and
bandwagoning besides considering several factors such as Chinese aggressive intent
as Japan's competitor, balance of force between China and U.S.-Japan, and also
strategic environment of East Asia.

Abstrak :
ABSTRACT
In Post-war Japan as a Sea Power, Alessio Patalano incorporates new, exclusive source material to develop an innovative approach to the study of post-war Japan as a military power. This archival-based history of Asia's most advanced navy, the Japanese Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF), looks beyond the traditional perspective of viewing the modern Japanese military in light of the country's alliance with the US. The book places the institution in a historical context, analysing its imperial legacy and the role of Japan's shattering defeat in WWII in the post-war emergence of Japan as East Asia's 'sea power.
