"Skripsi ini membahas Fremdheit (keasingan) dan eksotisme Sumatra tahun 1911 yang ditemukan oleh Hermann Hesse dan tertulis pada roman ?Aus Indien?. Fremdheit dan eksotisme Sumatra muncul dari posisi Hermann Hesse sebagai das Eigene (The Self) yang berasal dari Jerman. Kedua hal ini akan mempengaruhi proses verstehen antara Hermann Hesse dan lingkungan Sumatra sebagai das Fremde (The Other). Hasil analisis proses verstehen dalam penelitian adalah bergantinya posisi antara das Eigene dengan das Fremde dan bertambahnya cakrawala Hermann Hesse tentang Sumatra. Analisis menggunakan konsep Fremdheit dalam hermeneutik interkultural dan konsep eksotisme dalam wacana poskolonialisme.

The focus of this study is Fremdheit (strangeness) and the exotics of Sumatra in 1911 which was discovered by Hermann Hesse and written on the novel "Aus Indien". Fremdheit and the exotics of Sumatra emerged from Hermann Hesse's position as das Eigene (The Self) who comes from Germany. Both of these will affect the understanding process (verstehen) between Hermann Hesse and Sumatra?s environment as das Fremde (The Other). The results of the analysis in the verstehen (understanding) process are the alternation of position between das Eigene with Sumatra as das Fremde and the expanding of Hermann Hesse?s horizon about Sumatra. The analysis uses the concept of Fremdheit in intercultural hermeneutics and exotism concept in postcolonial discourse."

"ABSTRAKSkripsi ini merupakan studi penggunaan tanda dalam novel grafis Insekt karyaSascha Hommer. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat proses yang dilaluiPascal sebagai tokoh utama dalam mengonstruksikan identitas dirinya sebagai dasFremde dan das Eigene, ditinjau dari aspek semiotis dan hermeneutika. Datadianalisis dengan menggunakan teori semiotika Barthes, dan teori hermeneutikinterkultural Krusche. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatifdeskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa konstruksi identitas diri dilaluiPascal melalui proses awal sebagai das Eigene yang kemudian berubah menjadidas Fremde, hingga akhirnya Pascal berhasil berkompromi dengan dirinya untukmenjadi das Eigene kembali.

ABSTRACTThis undergraduate thesis is a study about the use of signs in graphic novel: Insektby Sascha Hommer. The purpose of this study is to see the process through Pascalas the main character in his construction identity as das Fremde and das Eigenefrom semiotic and hermeneutic aspects. The data was analyzed by using Barthessemiotics theory and Krusche’s interkulture hermeneutics theory. Method thatbeing used in this research is qualitative descriptive. The outcome of this researchshows that identity construction from the main character can be passed throughthe initial process as das Eigene which turned into das Fremde. Pascal finallycompromise with himself to be das Eigene back."

"Penelitian ini membahas ajaran Islam Wetu Telu, sebuah kelompok aliran kepercayaan lokal yang mensinkretisasi kepercayaan Hindu, Sasak Boda, dan Islam. Aliran ini berkembang di Desa Bayan, Lombok Utara. Kelompok ini memiliki keunikan serta ciri khas tersendiri dalam memahami konsep kehidupan dan ketuhanan. Penelitian ini merefleksikan 2 hal: Pertama, apa makna filosofis Islam Wetu Telu berdasarkan pemikiran hermeneutika fenomenologi Paul Ricoeur., Kedua, bagaimana simbol – simbol pada upacara Gawe Urip dan Gawe Pati dapat dimaknai sebagai simbol kejahatan: noda, dosa, dan kebersalahan. Dengan menggunakan metode hermeneutika fenomenologi Paul Ricoeur dan refleksi filosofis, peneliti menerapkan 3 model interpretasi yaitu: a) Interpretasi Primer, b) Interpretasi Literal, dan c) Interpretasi Filosofis. Peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa ajaran Islam Wetu Telu sebagai filosofi hidup yang terus dipatuhi dan dijaga kemurnian ajarannya. Simbol – simbol pada upacara kehidupan dan kematian dapat diinterpretasikan sebagai upaya penebusan simbol kejahatan: noda, dosa, dan kebersalahan yang digunakan untuk mengungkap pengalaman hidupnya. Sebagaimana yang disebutkan Ricoeur pengalaman eksistensial manusia dapat diakui dengan memahami keadaannya yang berhadapan dengan kebersalahan.

This research discusses the teachings of Islam Wetu Telu, a local syncretic belief system that combines elements of Hinduism, Sasak Boda, and Islam. This sect has developed in the village of Bayan, North Lombok. The group has unique characteristics and distinct features in understanding the concepts of life and divinity. This study reflects on two main points: First, what is the philosophical meaning of Islam Wetu Telu based on the hermeneutic phenomenology of Paul Ricoeur., Second, how can the symbols in the Gawe Urip and Gawe Pati ceremonies be interpreted as symbols of evil: stain, sin, and guilt. By employing Paul Ricoeur's hermeneutic phenomenology method and philosophical reflection, the researcher applies three models of interpretation: a) Primary Interpretation, b) Literal Interpretation, and c) Philosophical Interpretation. The researcher concludes that the teachings of Islam Wetu Telu serve as a life philosophy that is continuously adhered to and maintained in its purity. The symbols in the life and funeral ceremonies can be interpreted as efforts to atone for the symbols of evil: stain, sin, and guilt, which are used to reveal life's experiences. As Ricoeur mentioned, the existential human experience can be acknowledged by understanding its confrontation with guilt."
