The Beatles' "All You Need Is Love" encapsulates the spirit of the Summer of Love in 1967, a period marked by a powerful counterculture movement advocating for peace, love, and freedom. This study employs a dual visual methodology, drawing on Gillian Rose's frameworks of content analysis and compositional interpretation, to delve into the song's lyrics and its video performance. By contextualizing the analysis within the socio-cultural milieu of 1967, with a focus on the Summer of Love and the counterculture movement, this study sheds light on how "All You Need Is Love" served as a rallying cry for societal change from conventional norms to a more open, inclusive society. Furthermore, the study examines the song's impact, exploring how it was consumed as a form of protest and a representation of love and peace amidst the tumultuous socio-political landscape, particularly in response to issues like the Vietnam War and civil rights movements. The findings of this study underscore the enduring relevance and impact of The Beatles' message of love and peace, resonating across generations. However, limitations in data availability and the inherent subjectivity of visual interpretation warrant cautious interpretation of the results. Moving forward, future research could explore additional visual methodologies to enrich the understanding of the song's cultural significance and its role in shaping collective consciousness.
