"Pentingnya Kebun Raya Bogor dalam bidang penelitian botani tropis dapat terlihat dari berdirinya Kebun Raya hingga sekarang. Makna Kebun Raya sebagai pelopor penelitian botani tropis di Hindia-Belanda, terlihat dari diterbitkannya berbagai macam katalog botani tropis yang kelak berguna bagi para peneliti. Makna lain yang terlihat adalah berkembangnya budaya ilmiah yang membuat warga pribumi sadar akan pentingnya mempelajari ilmu pengetahuan. Kebun Raya secara tidak langsung merupakan hasil dari kebijakan etis pada bidang edukasi. Bagian dari Kebun Raya Bogor adalah berbagai lembaga penelitian seperti, Bibliotheca Bogoriensis, dan Herbarium Bogoriensis. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk memaparkan peran Kebun Raya sebagai perintis budaya ilmiah. Dalam pengumpulan data penelitian ini menggunakan studi pustaka. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Kebun Raya Bogor merupakan perintis yang mengawali budaya ilmiah karena terbukti dari dikembangkannya berbagai lembaga penelitian yang sekarang masih tetap berfungsi dan katalog botani yang hingga kini tetap bermanfaat untuk penelitian.

The importance of Bogor Botanical Garden in tropical botanic research is evident ever since it is found. The meaning of Bogor Botanical Garden as a pioneer of tropical botanic research in Dutch East Indies can be seen from the published about tropical botanic catalogs which help of the researchers. Signifiant the meaning Bogor Botanical Garden can be seen from a development research culture that made most the Indonesian aware of the importance of science. Bogor Botanical Garden is the result of ethical policy excited any The Dutch East Indies. Part of Bogor Botanical Garden is the various institute, Bibliotheca Bogoriensis, and Herbarium Bogoriensis.

The aims of this research is to show the role of Bogor Botanical Garden is the scientific of research culture. Literature review is used in collecting data. From the research can be showed that Bogor Botanical Garden is pioneer that strated the research culture, as a showed by the development of various research institute that are still functional and moreover, botanical catalogs are still use by the research."

"ABSTRAKOrganic waste matter is a basic material for compost production. Compost can be made from fallen leafes which are produced from abscission metabolism plant. Bogor Botanical Garden has a compost processor unit that can be used to grind litter leaves from the garden. There are three main step that are collecting litter leaves, fermenting, and filtering. Composting metode is applied in two different condition that are aerob and anaerob. Compost organic mature is used to fertilize plant collection in the garden including nursery, reintroduction, plat selling and ecopark. Quality of compost in Bogor Botanical Garden is under standard and its capacity is not sufficient to support for each unit needs. Technical composting process in Bogor Botanical Garden is presented in this article."

"Perpustakaan KRB merupakan tempat penyimpanan informasi kelembagaan (local content) berbagai publikasi kebun raya dalam bentuk buku dan jurnal. Publikasi tersebut perlu diinformasikan kepada masyarakat. Untuk mengetahui kepuasan pemustaka dalam mendapatkan informasi tentang perkebunrayaan, Unit Perpustakaan menyebarkan kuesioner kepada para pemustakanya dari bulan Januari - Desember 2012. Dari 150 kuesioner yang telah disebarkan terkumpul 120 kuesioner. Kuesioner yang terkumpul kemudian diolah, ditabulasi dan dianalisis. Responden yang menyatakan baik tentang fasilitas dan kenyamanan ruang sebanyak 76 persen. Hal ini dimungkinkan karena sarana dan prasarana yang telah tersedia sudah cukup memenuhi keinginan pemustaka. Sebanyak 69 persen dari total responden sudah dapat menggunakan buku tamu elektronik dengan mudah. Responden yang menyatakan jam kunjungan baik sebanyak 73 persen, artinya jam kunjungan sudah sesuai dengan harapan pemustaka Perpustakaan. Pemustaka yang menyatakan bahwa koleksi perpustakaan kurang sebanyak 18 orang, Hal ini dikarenakan pada tahun 2011-2012, Perpustakaan tidak memiliki dana untuk pembelian buku luar negeri. Responden yang menyatakan layanan staf perpustakaan kepada pemustaka baik berjumlah 85 orang, yang menyatakan istimewa 30 orang. Dari hasil analisis kepuasan pemustaka di atas maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa, secara umum pemustaka merasa puas dengan layanan Perpustakaan KRB. Namun masih perlu ditingkatkan jumlah dan jenis koleksinya, serta terus dilakukan peningkatan kompetensi petugas perpustakaannya baik melalui diklat, magang maupun pendidikan yang lebih tinggi. Dengan demikian petugas perpustakaan akan semakin profesional dalam melayani kebutuhan pemustaka."

"Research on usable of Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park and Botanical Garden to develop the conservation education has been carried out, but the available information due to the package of conservation education using both of conservation areas is stilt lacking.The aim of this study is to measure and compare conservation education packages, which have conducted at Gunung Gede Pangrango and Bogor Botanical Garden. The compiling information from this study will be useful as a contribution to develop the program of conservation education as well as to increase the management of conservation area.The comparative study was conducted in two conservation area, the Gunung Gede Pangrango (representative for in situ conservation), and Bogor Botanical Garden (for ex situ conservation), using a questionnaire method, document analyzing, field observation, and measure the progress of the institutional development using matrix of the Institutional Development Framework ( IDF ). Correspondence is the key-person from institutions who responsible in organizing the conservation education program.The conclusion of this study was that the Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park is more diverse in having potential interpretation material compare to that of Bogor Botanical Garden, especially the available concepts of ecology and conservation in species and ecosystem level. In comparison, the Bogor. Botanical Garden has relatively more facilities on species interpretation. The conservation education program at both areas has limit goal, only covered the awareness and knowledge, and not completed with the education evaluation, which measured the impact of education on conservation for the participants. Covering the goal of the education, usable of flagship species and education evaluation might develop the quality of the program at both areas.Both of the institutions have limit facilities and skill to develop the package of the conservation education program, therefore they need cooperation with other institution as a partner. The study also identified that the Partners have a good contribution on developing the package of the Conservation education program as well as provide human resources. Some partners have provided the technical and facilities for educating, however none of the four NGO's which cooperate with the two institutions (Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park and Bogor Botanical Garden) in sustainability stage at institutional; development continuum. It seem that their institutional development progress will influence the existing packages for educating conservation program, which prepared at Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park and Bogor Botanical Garden."
