Household food security correlates to a variety of health problems such as malnutrition, stunting, overweight, obesity, and mental health. Indonesia is the only country in the world with a high prevalence of three types of malnutrition wasting, stunting, and overweightThis study aims to analyze the food security of male and female-headed households in Indonesia during 1993-2018. This study uses a nationally representative survey in Indonesia, also known as Survei Sosial Ekonomi Nasional (SUSENAS) and Village Census (Potensi Desa). The analytical method uses multinomial logistic regression analysis. This study finds that female headed-household found to be more food secure than male at counterpart. Many socio-demographic variables, socio-economic, road infrastructure and economic shock have a significant association with food security status."

This thesis discusses the weakening of Indonesia's rice food commodities due to the implementation of IMF Letter of Intent, the period 1995 to 2009. The method used is quantitative descriptive design. The results of this study show that Indonesia has weakened food security in terms of availability of rice, rice supply stability, and access to rice. Availability is measured from the ratio of the amount of consumption per year with available stock, supply stability measured by the ratio of the volume of domestic rice and rice imports, while the access measured from the retail price of rice every year. Indonesia rice availability is likely to show declining numbers, the stability showed that rice imports fluctuate and tend to rise, and access to show the retail price of rice continues to rise each year."

"Food insecurity can result from various events. While an adequate food supply is necessary, when food is abundant the entitlement to food is limited by endowments, the ability to trade, and potential transfers. This volume considers trends in economic growth, agricultural productivity growth, income and other policies that shape food security. "

"Global financial crisis and climate changes have affected food security in a move vulnerable situation. Food security pillars, in this respect should be strengthened. The food security pillar should not rely only on quantitative approaches, but also on other pillars in a wider food spectrum. One of the feasible ways to enhance food security is to develop food diversification based on local food commodities. This paper is aimed to assess some vulnerable points of national food security, the significant of the diversification to enhance food availability and its prospect as one of the pillars to develop steady food security in Indonesia."

Despite contract farming’s widespread implementation to overcome market constraints and enhance farmers’ livelihoods, its impact on food security remains inadequately investigated and questionable. Moreover, there is a lack of empirical evidence regarding the impact of contract farming on food security in Indonesia. To address this research gap, this study employs propensity score matching (PSM) to mitigate selection bias in examining the impact of contract farming on the food security of smallholder farm households in Indonesia. It utilizes the 2021 Indonesia Agricultural Integrated Survey (SITASI) data, designed to monitor the indicators of sustainable development goals (SDGs) in the agriculture sector. The food insecurity experience scale (FIES) is used to measure food security. This study shows that contract farming can potentially improve the food security of smallholder farm households in Indonesia. However, it is noteworthy to note that it only benefits certain groups of farmers. Contract farming significantly improves food security of estate crop farmers but does not have a similar effect on the food security of farmers of other commodities. Regionally, the positive impact is most pronounced in North Maluku. Contract farming is also found to benefit only smaller farms, which are the most vulnerable to food insecurity. Positive outcomes are more pronounced for rural farmers, women, and those without land or livestock. These results underscore the role of contract farming in promoting rural development, women empowerment, and poverty alleviation among asset-poor farmers."
