ABSTRAKPenelitian ini membahas tentang peranan Nederlandsch Indische Vereeniging tot Natuurbescherming NIVN dalam pendirian Cagar Alam Depok pada 1913. Lembaga tersebut mengupayakan, Hutan Depok seluas enam hektare yang sebelumnya dijaga pelestariannya oleh komunitas masyarakat Depok Gemeente Depok selama lebih dari dua abad, menjadi sebuah cagar alam. Mereka melakukan sejumlah aktivitas yang sebelumnya tidak pernah dilakukan oleh pengelola terdahulu, pihak Gemeente Depok, di antaranya membangun sarana dan prasarana cagar alam, seperti pagar keliling dan jalan setapak, juga melakukan sejumlah penelitian konservasi. Keberadaan Hutan Depok yang berubah statusnya menjadi cagar alam itu akhirnya diakui oleh pihak luar, baik di pihak swasta maupun pemerintah kolonial Hindia Belanda, sebagai tempat penelitian dan perlindungan alam yang mesti dijaga kelestariannya. Dalam proses penelitian ini, penulis menggunakan metode sejarah yang terdiri dari empat tahapan, yaitu heuristik, verifikasi, interpretasi, dan historiografi.
ABSTRACTThis thesis explain about the role of Nederlandsch Indische Vereeniging tot Natuurbsecherming NIVN in the establishment of Depok Nature Conservation in 1913. The institution want to build six hectares Depok Forest, which had been conserved by Depok local communities Gemeente Depok for more than a century, into a nature reserve area. They did activities that had not previously been done by the Gemeente Depok. Activities such as building facilities and infrastructure, including fences and footpaths, and did a number of researches. The existence of Depok Fores has changed its status to a nature reserve was finally recognized by outside parties, both in the private sector and the Dutch East Indies colonial government, as a place of research and nature protection that must be preserved. In the process of this study, using the historical method consists of four stages heuristics, verification, interpretation and historiography."
